No matter what the situationCHECK The scene and the patient Tap on the shoulder and shout “are you okay” If no responseCALL Call 911 or the local emergency numberCARE Take Care of the patient by doing the following steps:A = Airway tip the head back and lift on the chinCheck for signs of life (movement and breathing) for no more than 10 seconds.
  • Count 1and 2 and 3 and 4 until you get to 30, then give 2 slow breaths.
  • If they are still choking, position yourself behind them, reach around to find their navel with 1 hand and place your other fist, thumb side in, just above their navel.
  • Sweep out the mouth if you can see anything.
