Abstract:	ACE student Ace English 9/17/04 Vermeer In Johannes Vermeer’s 1657 painting , A Girl Asleep, the scene appears to be merely a young woman napping at a table. Upon inspecting her face, you can see an air of peacefulness. In the background of the painting is a view through a hallway into another room. The other light source comes from left side of the room in the background. The warmth of the light in the other rooms suggests that she is not afraid of this distance, and that there is no need to fear it.
