When buying gifts think of science related items such as field binoculars, telescopes, microscopes, models of the human body, computer software, science coloring (pencil) books for high school and college use, field guides (insects, birds, trees, wildflowers..) and other science oriented books and kits.
You are the most important role model for your child.
Support and encourage them while holding high, yet realistic, expectations of them.
