    Please refer to
    the
    enclosed calendar of INCLASS FINALS
    showing those exams.
Regents exams and other local exams begin on Thursday, June 14, and conclude June 21. The
    FINAL EXAM
    SCHEDULE for June 1421

    is included with this newsletter.
Students also will receive a copy of this
schedule and are responsible to be in school when their exams are scheduled.
    Beginning June 14,

    students
need to report when they have an exam scheduled.
The morning session begins at 8:00 a.m. (see exception)
and ends at 11:00 a.m.; the afternoon session begins at 12:00
noon and ends at 3:00 p.m. Students are expected to be at
their examination site 10 minutes prior to the start of the
    exam.
Students will be provided transportation home following
morning and afternoon exam sessions. Please be aware that
if your son or daughter has a day with an afternoon exam
    only, he or she
MUST FIND A WAY TO GET HERE
    . There
will be an area where students must stay and study if they are
here awaiting an afternoon exam and are dropped off early or
    ride their regular morning bus.
As always, if there are any questions regarding the exam
schedule or the arrangements students need to make for
transportation or possible testing conflicts, pl
    ease do not
hesitate to contact the school at 5899621.

    EXAM HINTS & TIPS

    (please see

    FROM THE LIBRARY...
    Test Taking Tips, courtesy of
    Mrs. Gray
    )

All this discussion about final exams relates to the need for students to
    study in advance
    and prepare to do their
best. In almost every class, this exam represents a cumulative test of their work from all year. This can be an
overwhelming amount of material and many teachers have begun reviewing in class, as well as holding sessions
    after school.
    Please

check with your son or daughter to determine what he or she is doing in terms of

    review—
    Is it happening in classes?
Are there after school sessions your student can attend?
Is your child bringing books home to study now?
Does your child have a tendency to wait until the night before and
try to cram? The most important things parents can do are to
    :
    encourage attendance at review sessions,
help your student begin studying now through

organization of notes and review materials,
offer assistance studying if it is necessary, and
    know your child's schedule.

    ATTENDANCE
This is a crucial time for students to be in school. It is quite
tempting to take an afternoon off when the weather is so nice. We
all need to encourage our students to understand the importance of
being in school as teachers help them prepare for upcoming finals.
This also means being to school on time.

    TOP 10
    MEMBERS OF
    THE CLASS OF 2001

It is an exciting time for the top
students in the class as they see the
efforts of four years come to fruition.
The top students in this class were
within .4 of each other at the
beginning of the school year, and
final rank was determined after the
    third marking period. The results
    are:
    1.
    Joshua Dennie
    – Valedictorian

    2.
    Joanna Carey
    – Salutatorian

NOTES OF INTEREST TO PARENTS OF SENIORS
    1.
“Senior Skip Day” was on May 13. More than 70% of the senior
class was absent that day, some legally, most not. If your senior
son or daughter has not shared with you, there were
consequences. All of the seniors who were absent illegally
received a step for truancy. This meant a detention for the
majority of the seniors as many were at step 1 in the discipline
system. In addition to the step, there were sanctions applied to
the class as a whole. They need to understand, as does the
community, that this is not an activity we condone. My goal
each spring is to maintain a valid educational environment and I
want the seniors to help with this. They were told that if a group
of seniors (2 or more) disrupt that educational environment for
the other students, they would be denied either their senior
banquet June 6 in Canandaigua and, if it happens after June 6,
    the June 13
    th
picnic to Darien Lake will be forfeit.
There are numerous events to help the seniors celebrate the end of
their high school career that make this unnecessary. The common
parent remark is that they did the same thing when they were i
    n
school so it’s okay for their child. It’s
    not
    okay as the stakes are
higher than when we went through school. The liability issues we
face are tremendous, as is the pressure of the testing for the students.
The diploma for which they are working is even more important to
our children’s success than it was to our own.
    2.
IS YOUR SENIOR CERTIFIED FOR GRADUATION?

At the end of the third marking period the Guidance office notifies the parents of any senior who is even remotely in
jeopardy of not graduating. This means that these students are not yet certified for graduation. If you received this
notice, please be sure to check with the school to ensure your son or daughter does everything possible to reach that
    stage on June 23
    rd
! Contact the Guidance Office (Mrs. Merriett), myself, or the teacher of the class in which your
    child is having trouble.

    BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS
The 7th annual Breakfast of Champions was held May 30
    th
in honor of 43 students who have earned a place on
the High Honor Roll (average of 95 +) at least once during the first t
    hree marking periods. Ben Minier,

    Williamson Central School K
4 Physical Education Teacher, was the featured speaker. Students and their
parents were invited to this celebration of academic success.

Jerry Cantalupo and Comdr. Sammy Drayton speak at WHS

Jerry Cantalupo spoke to our student body on May 8
    th
about their responsibility for reallife choices. He proved to be a very
dynamic speaker who was very direct with the students and told his story in a nononsense manner. He used humor and
drama to make the point that we really are our brother’s keeper. His focal story was of a classmate who committed suicide
as a result of the taunting she received. He felt he was personally responsible, as he did nothing to prevent the verbal
assaults on this girl. He also talked of the responsibility involved when students drink or use other drugs. There was an
accident in Kentucky about 8 years ago in which 27 students were killed when a drunk driver hit their school bus headon.
He asked 27 seniors to stand in the front of the auditorium so that we could visualize the impact of this tragedy.

The student responses to Mr. Cantalupo were excellent. He spoke for 45 minutes to the entire school and then met with
small groups of students for the rest of the morning in the library. There were several students who approached me to say
“Thank You” for bringing him to our school. It’s good that we have an environment in which speakers such as Mr. Cantalupo
    are made welcome
    .

    * * * * *

The Rev. Sammy Drayton of Sodus was invited by Mrs. Legler through the efforts of Ms. Walker to speak to the students in
Mrs. Legler’s alternative program. He spoke two days after Mr. Cantalupo. We opened this for other students as well and
had approximately 30–35 for each of the two periods he spoke. As the title “Reverend” denotes, he is an ordained minister
serving one of the local churches in Sodus. The title “Comdr.” refers to his rank with the Rochester City Police Department.
He is second in command of the uniform patrols. He also made an impression on the students as he spoke of selfhonesty
and not allowing petty comments and differences to interfere with the attainment of one’s goals.

The churches of Williamson invite the graduating class of 2001 and their families to join them at
    this year's
Baccalaureate service to be held in the High School auditorium on SUNDA
    Y,
    JUNE
    17,

    .
The Baccalaureate is an annual spiritual celebration of our graduates planned by graduating seniors.

A Baccalaureate Committee comprised of students and class advisors has designed a beautiful service
around the theme "Journey". The Class of 2001 will open the service by proceeding into the auditorium
singing "I Will Follow Him" from the movie Sister Act led by Cheri Holloway and Kate Orbaker. The
program shall also include an anthem by a community choir under the direction of Ms. Lois Fiegl, the High
School choral director, an instrumental duet by Dominik Bohnen and Leah Monachino and a vocal duet by
Julia Harland and Bethany Homan singing Point of Grace's "You Will Never Walk Alone."
