ELA Program Network Meeting
September 28, 1998
Spring Superintendents’ Conference Day March 19, 1999. This has been scheduled as a regional conference, but districts may opt not to participate. John will include a list of possible topics with these minutes.
Some members attended the English Department Chairs meeting last Thursday. Information and discussion items were shared. Gail will contact Jo Slovak to get more information from this meeting. John shared the options presented to school superintendents for grading the ELA 4 and 8 assessments. They will be voting later this month.
We discussed possible agenda items for future meetings:
We discussed possible agenda items for future meetings:
- Share best practices that help us to meet each ELA Standard. We could produce an ELA document K-12 to share among districts.
- How are districts preparing/remediating students? Are there any programs that target students at risk?
- Every meeting we need to take time to share “current” information on state testing so that everyone can have access to the same information.
On-line Courses:
On-line Courses:
Check www.edutech.org
to check on these courses. These courses are set up in two phases. Phase one is a two-hour session. Phase two may be by invitation only and is 7-10 hours in length. ELA 4 will be available October 2. ELA 8 will be available on November 1. See your RIC representative for more information on this.
Self-reflection:
We chose to complete the “Program Networks-Current State” sheet as a group. Did we create a document based on our work last year to give back to our districts? Do we need to consider a half-day of release time to finalize the research we reviewed last year?
