Update on State mandates

Update on State mandates
Nancy Ruscio explained the sequence for training scorers for the grade 4 and grade 8 assessments to be administered in January 1999. Information from the SED was handed out that outlined the procedures and dates for training. It was recommended that this information be shared with all the decision-makers in each representative's home district.

Commitment to RIC/Questions and Concerns

Commitment to RIC/Questions and Concerns
It was reiterated that committee members were expected to fulfill a two-year commitment. The plan then would be to phase in new members in order to avoid a committee made up of all new members. Districts had originally agreed not to reimburse volunteers for participating, but some districts have provided some compensation by means of mileage and in-service credit. This was not the intent of RIC.

The question of summer work was raised, and there seemed to be too many existing conflicts to consider it at this time.

Information from RIC meetings is posted on DocuShare and minutes are distributed within two weeks of the meetings. Each district is responsible for its own internal communication system.

March 19 RIC is recommending another joint Superintendent's Conference Day. The committee was asked to make suggestions and/or help with the planning. Districts have until October 1to commit. The following list will be shared with Nancy Ruscio.
