Dear Students and Parents:

has gone as smoothly at home.

October 27
th
–

No school

Middle School Convention in Rochester.
October 31
st
– We will not have any special activities for
Halloween. If the students do dress up, it should be appropriate for
school and NO
full face masks. We will have a regular school day.
It was very nice to meet so many parents at the Open House. We
appreciate everyone taking the time to meet your child’s teacher and to
learn about the curriculum and student’s expectation. A good time
was had by all.
Please take a couple of minutes to read the articles of the wonderful
activities taking place at the Middle School.
As always if you have any questions please feel free to contact me at
school. Have a great full October.
Sincerely Yours,
Douglas G. Skeet

Grade News
by Mrs. Bierer
Many entries for the Rose Compass Contest will culminate in awards
for three categories: most detailed, best use of color, and most
humorous. Winners will have to be announced in the next newsletter
because of deadlines to be met. We will have spent two weeks
learning the skills to select and interpret maps to best advantage.
We have read “The Cay” for pleasure during these opening weeks.
Because of the weather (Science) and mapping (Social Studies)
influences in the novel, as well as it being about unlike people needing
to become dependent upon each other (new students and teacher!), we
managed to squeeze it in as a listening activity. Worth the effort!
We have learned about weather, experienced weather instruments, and
are creating our own weather instrument projects. Forecasting will be
left to the experts – but we understand their symbols!

Grade Math
by Mrs.
Bayley
We are learning about measurement and converting from one unit to
another in the metric system and the customary system. This will be
important to our students as adults as they run households and seek
career positions on an international job market.
We have begun work on problem solving and will continue that
throughout the year. This will help students do well on this year’s
state test and next year’s course
A exam which must be passed in order
to graduate. Next we will learn about powers and exponents, then
review and have a chapter test.
Expect a packet of work from chapter one, including one quiz and a
chapter test, within the next two weeks. Please examine the
homework and return the blue cover sheet, signed.
Thanks for your interest and support.
Word Wise
By Ms. Prill
Twentysix letters, so many words!
The longest word in the English language (
you count the letters!) is
microscopicsilicovocanoniosis. What does it mean? Where did you
find the answer? What words do you recognize within the word?
Answer these questions and send to Ms. Prill in the Middle School or
come see me in my room, Room 23.
Winners will be acknowledged. Good luck! Bon chance! !Buena
suerte!
Yorkers
By Mrs. Bierer
With all due deference to new scheduling, a variation of Yorkers will
be offered this fall. It will be close to traditional years, but it cannot be

of this period and hear from those of us who lived and loved through it
all.
Signup sheets will have been distributed by the end of September,
members selected by virtue of the first twenty 5

th
