DETAILS:
 
  Grade level:             11th Grade
When:              Thursday, October 28th (entire school day)
Transportation:   School bus or drive with parental permission
       (The school will not give permission to ride with other students)
 
OBJECTIVES:
  
  *Students will do "on-the-job" career exploration.
*Students will have exposure to the adult world of work.
*Students will demonstrate appropriate behavior and dress for the occupation
they choose to shadow.
 
   Career Shadowing Day is a component of the Guidance Department's Career Education program at Dundee Central School. During 11th grade, students will have the opportunity to choose an occupation/career that they are interested in to explore for the future. Students will meet with their Guidance Counselor to discuss career interests, brainstorm where and who they could shadow and then try to find a person in the surrounding communities in which the student could "shadow" for the day.
 
The purpose of shadowing is to give the student a chance to actually go to the work place and see what that particular job is really like. The student will meet with someone who works at the job you are interested in. That person will give a tour of the worksite, talk about the responsibilities of the occupation and provide an opportunity for observation and/or participation.
 
   Career Shadowing Day should give the student a more realistic view of the career they are interested in. For some, this experience may cast a few "shadows" of doubt on what they want to do in the future. For others, it will reassure their thoughts about their future career plans. Either way, it will be a valuable experience. Now is a good time to explore these possibilities. Additional shadowing experiences are also encouraged.
