Letter to the Board

June 26, 2009

To everything - turn, turn, turn
There is a season - turn, turn, turn
And a time for every purpose under heaven”

           The Byrds

Greetings from Wayne Central! This is a short letter since we just met last night.

1. Gullace Property: The Town made an offer to Gullace that the trailer park be assessed at 7.8 million. Gullace has rejected that offer and made a counter offer in the low 7s which the Town has rejected. We went to trial today. The attorney felt it went quite well though it will be awhile before we have a decision. It is becoming apparent to me that the assessor may have over assessed the park and there will eventually be some kind of reduction. It is also probable that we will end up refunding some tax money. I don’t expect it to be anywhere near the amount they are asking for. We do have a reserve account for such a purpose. We have also been using that same account to pay our share of attorney fees.

2. Ginna: You will recall that the Ginna dispute is over the additions that were recently made
there. Town Supervisor Bob Kelsh has been working on an amendment to the PILOT with Ginna that would establish a floor and a ceiling for what Ginna would pay in taxes. If we are able to get the numbers right, this could really help us as Ginna paid $70,000 less in taxes this year and are scheduled to do the same next year. This is due to our lowering of the tax rate.

3. Retreat: You’ll want to be thinking about whether we keep the agenda as it is or use the second half of the night to have a discussion about the one campus concept. We probably will need additional meetings also. I have begun putting numbers together on costs and savings for a single campus.
4. Greg’s Dad: Greg’s dad is 91 and has taken a turn for the worse this week. They have placed him in hospice so you know it will just be a matter of time. His sister has flown up from New Jersey. Greg has tried to come in for a portion of each day though I think he will spend today with his dad. This is a difficult time for Greg so please keep him in your prayers.
5. Retirement: This morning I gave Mark Callahan a copy of the packet I shared with you last night. As the Director of HR he would be a good resource for you. I believe he has helped with searches in the past.

6. WTA: I learned this morning that the Teachers Union is considering filing a grievance over the
policy on microwaves, refrigerators and coffee pots in their rooms. I don’t have any details but
will try to find out more.

7. Upcoming Events:
6/26 – HS graduation CMAC – 6:30

7/9/09 – Board reorganizational meeting
7/13/09 – Board/Administration retreat Casey Park
