Keshequa Central School
A Note to Parents and Guardians
The placement of your child in the
appropriate classroom for the fol-
lowing school year is an important
educational decision. We, at Dalton,
use a specific process that takes
into account many factors; educa-
tional, social and emotional that we
have learned about your child to cre-
ate a well balanced, educationally
sound classroom that fulfills all
State Regulations. This will provide
the best learning environment for all
our students.
We are always working on developing
the best strategies for gathering
information used in making success-
ful student placement decisions.
Again this year, we are asking par-
ents not to request a specific
teacher for the upcoming school
year. We have found that student
placement based on parent requests
can lead to unbalanced classes and
sometimes results in placements
that do not take all our data into
consideration. Even though we are
not asking for parent requests that
name a specific teacher, your
thoughts as a parent are very impor-
tant. You may have a specific con-
cern or circumstance about your
child that you would like considered as
class placements are being made. We
welcome you to share any information
that you feel would be helpful in the
placement of your child. You can do
this in several ways:
By letter, hand delivered or sent by
mail, to me at Keshequa Central School
Attn: Ami Hunt, P.O. Box 517 , Nunda,
NY 14517
By appointment, Call the Dalton Office
at, 476-2234, contact Mrs. Weaver at
Extension 1132 and make an appoint-
ment to meet with me personally.
I need to receive your information ei-
ther by letter or personal appointment
by Thursday, May 21, 2009 in order
for it to be used in making a class
placement decision for the 2009-2010
school year. Class lists will be finalized
in June: notification of class place-
ments for next year will be included
with the final report card.
As Always, your child’s educational
success is at the heart of every deci-
sion we make.
Thank you for your support.

Merry -Go -Round Playhouse Performs with Kindergart
en
Actors from The Merry -Go -Round Playhouse Children
's Theatre from Auburn, NY met with each Kindergart
en class
before their performance of
The Happy Circus on
April 23
.
The actors talked about what we might see at a rea
l cir-
cus and then explained that there were only three
actors today so children would have to help. Child
ren were di-
vided into groups and taught how to perform like el
ephants, ponies, seals, tigers, and acrobats. When
it was time for
the show, each group of children did its part wonde
rfully. The actors also did some magic tricks that
were quite amaz-
ing! After the show some of the children wrote dow
n questions to ask the actors. Many of the children
wanted to
know how they did the magic tricks.
We will mail the questions and look forward to th
e response from the Merry-Go-Round-Playhouse!

The second graders enjoyed a
Dinosaur Dig this month. It was
quite a treat. They got to see
many dinosaur fossils and
learned many interesting facts.
Please ask them about Mr.
Nixon and Elvis. Some of the
children played a game to show
us what they knew about dino-
saurs. They did a great job!!
The children even got to dig for
fossils just like a paleontolo-
gist. They found actual dino-
saur fossils as well as other fos-
sils of creatures that were
around at the time of the dino-
saurs. They all received a fossil
to bring home. This was a
great experience for everyone.
Mrs. Downey's
class got to watch a
puppet show by
two of their very own
classmates.
Jocelyn Parthemer and
Hudson Vasile
worked very hard on
the story The Cat

practiced their lines
over and over until they
were fluent. They
then performed the play
for the class. The
children really enjoyed
it. Thank you Mrs.
Hark for working so

On March 25 Miss Cantleberry’s class
helped Ross the dog celebrate his 5
th
birthday. In order to have the celebra-
tion the students had to light 26 can-
dles with flames (pretend flames, of
course) by following the rules and
working well together.
Also invited were Mrs. Proctor’s class
from the Middle school and Mrs. Val-
lance’s class. All the children made
pupcakes, yummy chocolate concoc-
tions that looked like a dog, and dog
ear party hats. Ross couldn’t have the
chocolate, but he got a few treats of his
own.
He also showed off some tricks. Ross
thinks that this has been his best
birthday so far!

my cousin always takes all my toys out of
my toy box! It will automatically clean up

Liam K. invented a device that would
automatically comb your hair for you as
you roll out of bed! These are just a few
of the creative ideas my peers came up
with.
When everyone finishes, the inventions
will be displayed in our school for every-
one to see.
In addition to designing an invention we
learned about many inventors and wrote
biographies on them including:
Walter Hunt : safety pin
George Crum : potato chip
Margaret Knight: grocery bag machine
James Smith: cough drops
Milton Snavely Hershey: Hershey Bar
Mary Anderson: wind shield wipers
What would you invent if you were
given the opportunity?
This month our class has been focus-
ing on and learning about inventors/
inventions. Some of my classmates
including myself were assigned to
make our own invention. We made
things that could solve everyday
problems.
I interviewed some of my classmates
about this project. I interviewed Lau-
ren M. and she invented a game
called, Supper Dice. She explained
that her family always has trouble
deciding what to have for dinner.
She created a die that could be rolled
each night to help make that decision
easier. I also talked to Koen W.. He
made a Cloning Machine. Koen made
this so you could be in two places at
one time. Koen said, “It only works
for 24 hours though!” I think this
would really help out if you wanted to
sleep in. You could send your clone to
school. Someone else I talked to was
Rebecca F.. She designed a vacuum
toy box. She said, “I made it because

Peacebuilder Celebration
Kindness Connects Us All
On March 31
st
Dalton Elementary celebrated our spring Peacebuild
er day with the theme,
kindness connects us all. The theme focused on how
acts of kindness create a school climate
that supports safety and connectedness, both which
provide for a successful learning environ-
ment.
Our celebration started with fifth grade students d
elivering their “thank you for your kind-
ness” notes to all of the school staff. Then, thir
d, fourth, and fifth grade classes went to their
partner classes and made acts of kindness posters t
o demonstrate peaceful activities for the
cafeteria. After the team posters were finished, t
hey were joined together into one big poster
and all eleven team groups gathered in the gym to c
elebrate our success and connectedness.
The fifth grade chorus led us all in the “School So
ng” and then the classroom teams shared
their posters with the rest of the audience. We en
ded our Peacebuilder celebration with the
“Random Acts of Kindness” song led by the fifth gra
de chorus.
All of the team posters have been hung up either ne
ar or in the cafeteria to help remind all
students that we need to treat each other with kind
ness and respect while eating. We con-
tinue to use our Peacebuilder program as a way to c
reate the safest and welcoming school
climate that we can for all of our students.

Great Job
On April 22

, the Elementary PageTurners team traveled to Wayla

attend its second competition of the year. The stu

, The Glorious Flight
, Sarah, Plain and Tall
, Runny Bab-
bit
, and ten others.
It was a very close competition with only a few po

team. In the end our team came in third place at t
his event.
The participants in PageTurners this year were: A
llegra Learn, Lillian
Willett, Danielle Dean, Savanah Vasile, Christina A
dams, Liam Costello, Hannah
Wood, Nicole Simone, Hannah Moriarty, Garrett Thomp
son, Kyrstin Rawleigh, Syl-
via Thompson, Cheyenne James, Cassandra Szuluski, J

and Tami Lovell.
Students in grades 3-5 may participate on the Elem

School PageTurners team.
The reading lists for next year are ready now. See
Mrs. Ellison in the library if
