Letter to the Board

”Laughter is an instant vacation.”           --Milton Berle, Comedian, Actor

Greetings from Wayne Central. Below are a few items of interest.

Board Agenda:

1. Executive Session: We will have an executive session first to meet with Kim Cox over the ASI position. The second portion of the executive session will be to meet with Mark Callahan over non-represented staff.
2. Board/Administration Workshop: I will be reviewing plans for the June 26 Board/Administration workshop and will be asking you to begin thinking about goals for next year. The outcome of the day will be to establish the 2006-07 district goals, based on the collaboration of the administration and the board and the input we have garnered throughout the year.

3. Graduation: We will review the graduation ceremonies and our roles in them.
4. Model Schools Update:   I have enclosed the Informational Booklet on the new Internship Program at Wayne High School, which is part of the new graduation requirements we have put in place in conjunction with the Model Schools Program. Every student in the class of 2010 (next year’s freshman class) will be required to complete an internship prior to graduation. Next year we will be piloting the program with between 25-30 interested students in the upper grades. Mr. Siracuse, Mrs. Miller and Miss DonVito will present an update on our plans.

5. Monroe County Sales Tax Resolution: Wayne Central is a district that receives a small portion of Monroe County sales tax revenue and therefore is a named defendant in a lawsuit brought by 24 school districts of Monroe County (and bordering) school districts regarding sales tax to share in a joint, united defense in an effort to maintain sales tax sharing. I have authorized our participation in this joint venture. We need to officially adopt a resolution to this affect. I have had Wayne VanderByl review the resolution and he approves.

6. Executive Session: The second executive session will be used to review my 2005-06 evaluation.

Board Letter:

1. Board Meeting Schedule: As Lori’s email noted, the additional meetings should have been just one. Susan Newman and Jeff Schultz responded and pointed out that the October 26 meeting date that was added would conflict with the NYSSBA convention in October. A very good point, and the reason why we have many minds looking these over before we adopt the schedule. So, I am attaching another version. This required dates in November to be changed so that we do not schedule during the fall holiday times. You would think this would be so simple…..

2. Eagle Ventures House: I meet with Mike Mille and Frank Fink from Constellation regarding the Farmhouse at Lake Road formerly used by the Eagle Ventures Program. They feel committed to finding a way to bring the house to code so the school can use it. They would like to turn the house over to the Educational Foundation which could allow the district to use it. There are still many hurtles to this, however I forwarded CPA’s list of improvements. This list totals $300,000

3. Wayne Education Foundation: Last night the Education Foundation elected its officers which are as follows: President: Pete Marini; Vice President: Gerry Freida; Secretary: Patti Marini; Treasurer: Lee Stramonine. I would like to extend a special thank you to Frank Robusto who was the founding president and steered us through our first year.

4. WTA Contract: We finally signed the contract on Wednesday evening at Domm’s house. There were hamburgers, hotdogs, and beverages shared by all.

5. Freewill Elementary Principal Position: I met with Freewill staff yesterday and let them know we would be following a process similar to the one at OE. I expect to have a candidate to you at the August Board meeting. President Triou will be contacting one of you to serve on the committee.

6. Track State Competitions: This past weekend our two Girls Track Sectional winners went to States. Krystal Lang, pole vault final height, 9’6” finished 7th in Division I, 10th overall in the state. Jenna Darron, 400 meter run, finished 11th in Division I.
