How to do a critical lens essay   

    PARAGRAPH 1 -- INTRODUCTION

    Sentence 1: Copy the quote word for word.
    Sentence 2: Put quote in your own words, giving the meaning you say it has.
    Sentence 3: Agree or disagree.
    Sentence 4: Tell the titles (underline) and authors of two literary works that prove your opinion.

    PARAGRAPH 2 - BODY PARAGRAPH
    Sentence 1: The first book proves your point because of certain literary elements (characterization, theme, conflict, setting).
    Sentence 2: A specific example of how the author used the literary element to prove your opinion is true.
    Sentence 3: Another example or detail of how the author proves your opinion.
    Sentence 4: Another detail summing up how your first book proves your opinion.

    PARAGRAPH 3 - BODY PARAGRAPH
    Same as Paragraph 2, but say, "The second literary work..." Don't forget to talk about conflicts, characterization, theme, setting, and other literary elements that show how the author proves your opinion about the critical lens is correct. Use specific quotes, incidents and characters from the book.

    PARAGRAPH 4 - BODY PARAGRAPH
    4 Sentences about how something from your own experience proves your point.

    PARAGRAPH 5 - CONCLUSION
    Sentence 1: Therefore, restate the quote.
    Sentence 2: Summarize why it is true or false.
    Sentence 3: Make a statement about the future with respect to the quote.
    Sentence 4: Use a strong quote from something you have read that ties things up in a neat one-liner sentence.
