English 9 (Block 9.01, meeting days ACD  [24 students] ; 9.02, meeting ABD [14 students] ; 9.03, meeting BDE [22 students] ; 9.04, meeting BCE [20 students] )
 
Day 1:
9.01: Collect books; continue review of lit: characterization, setting, theme, symbolism, etc. Individually brainstorm ideas and information for critical lens on Preparing for the Regents Exam in English, p. 302. Turn drafts in to teacher.
902-3: Collect books; start review of lit: characterization, setting, theme, symbolism, etc.
 
Day 2:
All classes continue to return books.
9.01: completes review of lit; completes critical lens outline, starts essay. All students turn drafts in to teacher.
9.02, 9.03, 9.04: continue review of lit; brainstorm and prepare outline for critical lens essay. Turn in drafts to teacher.
 
Day 3:
All classes continue to return books.
All classes complete critical lens essay, turning final draft in to teacher before leaving class.

Poetry Unit
Students review rhyme, meter, foot, iamb, trochee, anapest, dactyl, spondee, alliteration, consonance, assonance, personification, simile, metaphor; 901-924; 925-967
Students apply these technical terms and earlier literary approaches as appropriate to:
 Hamlet, II, ii, 476-533 (1612-1614). Students examine the lesson in “Recognizing Excellence,” 1082-1108.{All in the Kennedy anthology.}

English 12 (meeting days BCE)
Students complete application/cover letters and resumes by end of last class. As time allows, review with students major characteristics and components of our units in Public Speaking, Sci Fi, Children’s Lit., Journalism, Finding a Job.

ELA Lab.09 (meeting day B)
Students catch up or work ahead of English class. Students may work on other subjects, with teacher leading them into using ELA skills.
