English 9 (Block 9.01, meeting days ACD; 9.02, meeting ABD; 9.03, meeting BDE; 9.04, meeting BCE)
 
 
Daily: review Global voc. (abbot, abdicate, absolutism, acid rain, the Acropolis, The Age of Enlightenment, imperialism, alloy, alluvial soil.ancestor worship, assimilation, autonomy ,autocratic , balance of power, b aptism, barter )
 
Days 1 and 2: students (individually or in groups of 2-3) pick a character to trace through Shakespeare’s text (in Elements of Literature, Romeo and Juliet Plainspoken, or Romeo and Juliet Side by Side). They draw conclusions about the character’s characterization, conclusions about what their character’s interests are or how they deal with those interests. Are the consistent? Then each student writes an essay independently showing his or her conclusions. Due end of class on day 2.
 
Day 3: students individually or in groups present their findings. Among topics to discuss: how similar are the characteristics in the Luhrmann production? How strongly motivated are the characters? Are the minor characters as richly shown as the major characters?

Write essay: “Writing Assignment,” on 21: “Summarize the plot. . . .” In the assignment on that page, substitute for the word “some” the number “3.”.

English 12 (meeting days BCE)  
We start our Children’s Literature unit.
Day 1: read two articles (handouts) on the “Nanny” shows; view, learn from, and critique what the SuperNanny does (video in class).
Day 2: examine two famous examples of children’s lit.
Day 3: read and prepare reports on children’s lit.

ELA Lab.09 (meeting day B)
