English 9 (Block 9.01, meeting days ACD; 9.02, meeting ABD; 9.03, meeting BDE; 9.04, meeting BCE)
 
 
Blocks 1 and 2 turn in essay at start of period on how DeCaprio and Luhrman choose behavior and stage effects to create Romeo’s characterization when we first see him in video Romeo and Juliet. Blocks 3 and 4 turn the essay in at end of period, with 20-30 minutes allowed to finish.
 
Students gather information for essay on theme “They stumble that run fast.”
 
Daily: View episodes from video Romeo and Juliet, pausing to note significant signs of plot, theme, characterization, motivation, some filming techniques. [Teacher needs to note where video stopped, in order to keep classes at same point and in order to return to appropriate points.]
 
Daily: review Global voc. (abbot, abdicate, absolutism, acid rain, the Acropolis, The Age of Enlightenment, imperialism, alloy, alluvial soil.ancestor worship, assimilation, autonomy ,autocratic , balance of power)
 
Add two items: Baptism (primarily Christian rite, in which water is poured or dripped on a person [or in which a person is put into a body of water] to symbolize being reborn as a new person)
Barter (direct exchange of goods and services, without money [barter economy—an economy with barter instead of money])

Daily: write and research in computer lab (rm 104). See published schedule for deadlines.
Plannig ahead: S. Crusade will present on Hamlet during week of 1/18/05.

English 12 (meeting days BCE)  
Certain students make presentations: Nate H.[day 1], Jesse and R. Groves [day 1], Bobby Fitzgerald [day 2], Charles Skellen[day 2]
 
Students make individual contracts for reading from one or two anthologies of sci fi. See handout of prepared topics; they devise other ones. Contracts should be decided on and approved by day 2.
 
We will watch “I, Robot” for comparison with earlier sci fi.

ELA Lab.09 (meeting day B)
Students catch up or work ahead of English class. Students may work on other subjects, with teacher leading them into using ELA skills.
