Mission Statement: It is the mission of the Elba Central School District to actualize the phrase “Elba Equals Educational Excellence for Everyone.” We are committed to providing both quality and equity. Every student will have the opportunity to develop to the best of his/her ability.
 
Elba Standards: In addition to the knowledge and basic skills they need in order to participate in society, graduates of Elba Central School will develop:

CAREER DEVELOPMENT AND OCCUPATIONAL STUDIES
1.  Students will be knowledgeable about the world of work, explore career options, and relate personal skills, aptitudes, and abilities to future career decisions.
2.  Students will demonstrate how academic knowledge and skills are applied in the workplace and other settings.
3.  Students will demonstrate mastery of the foundation skills and competencies essential for success in the workplace.
4.  Students who choose a career major will acquire the career-specific technical knowledge/skills necessary to progress toward gainful employment, career advancement, and success in postsecondary programs.

Scope:
An introduction to the working world. Students identify career clusters and explore occupations based on identified interests. Students also create a budget and explore the ability to live within the wages of the chosen occupation.
 
Sequence:
Interest Inventories
Identification of Career Clusters
Research of three different occupations
Poster on one chosen occupation
Creation of a personal budget
v   Purchases of housing, vehicles, furniture, food, clothing, recreational activities, savings, investments.
 
 
Methodology:
Many interest inventories covering likes, dislikes, aptitudes, attitudes, personality, etc.
Budget simulation to determine if the chosen occupation will provide for a family of four.
