“I am responsible. Although I may not be able to prevent the worst from happening, I am responsible for my attitude toward the inevitable misfortunes that darken life. Bad things do happen; how I respond to them defines my character and the quality of my life. I can choose to sit in perpetual sadness, immobilized by the gravity of my loss, or I can choose to rise from the pain and treasure the most precious gift I have – life itself.”    - - Walter Anderson

Greetings from Wayne Central School District. Below are some items of interest.

Newsletter:

1. American Education Week – Various school recognition activities will be occurring during the week of November 16-22, American Education Week. We will also be sending a letter and token of appreciation to each staff member.
2. MCC Course Offerings – I have continued to meet with MCC Personnel in arranging the classes they will be offering at the Wayne High School. I am attaching a page from their “Spring 2004 Class Schedule and Registration Guide” which lists the courses offered at Wayne. MCC has agreed to have a representative spend an evening at Wayne to offer a local registration site. I am very pleased to see this process come to fruition and believe this will provide a great benefit to our community. We will be sending this information out in our district newsletter in the beginning of December.
3. Full Day Kindergarten – At our last board meeting, a parent asked questions about the proposed full day kindergarten program, I want to remind you that we will be presenting a proposal to you are our next board meeting regarding full day kindergarten. We will ask for tentative direction from you regarding the program at the December meeting. That will allow us to properly prepare our budget.

4. Local Election Results – As you may be aware, Ontario Town Supervisor Dick Clark lost the election to Democrat Joe Molino. All town board seats are held by Republicans. We have several things in the works with the Town of Ontario including drainage work and ditch clearing on school property, the sale of the Ginna plant, and the on-going discussions over sharing sales tax to name the highlights. I hope we can establish the same collaborative rapport with Mr. Molino. In Walworth , the race was for town board seats. The elected members remain the same with Maciuska and Keyes holding their board seats. Ron Holdraker did not win a seat on the town board.

5. Sectional Outcomes – You are probably aware of the results of the sectional play, but I wanted to recap. Girls Varsity Soccer was a #4 seed in Class A that lost in the second round to Aquinas. Boys Varsity Soccer was a #4 Seed in Class BB and lost in the second round to Pittsford-Sutherland. Girls Varsity Volleyball advanced through the first and second round of Class B by beating Geneva and Newark. They lost in a very exciting Section V Class B championship match to Victor. Boys Varsity Volleyball advanced in the first round beating Pavilion and advancing to the semi-final round where they lost to the #1 seeded Midlakes. Boys and Girls Varsity Cross Country athletes sent one student, Eric Molino on to the State competitions to be held at Marcus-Whitman on Saturday November 8th. This morning we held a breakfast for Eric and the Girls Volleyball Team Players.

6. Treasurer’s Report – Attached is the missing back page of the September’s Treasurer’s Report from the November 5 Board meeting. Please let me know if you have any questions.

7. School Lunch Point of Sale Program – The schools have all converted to the point of sale program. This process allows students to have an account which is prepaid. This eases the burden for parents to have lunch money available each morning for their kids, or the worry of losing lunch money, and stealing or bullying kids for their lunch money becomes impossible. Students are not allowed to charge to any other student’s account and parents can put limits on the amount of money that can be charged in one day (so a student can not buy lunch for “the gang”, or be bullied into buying someone their lunch). The administration is working out glitches as you would expect to occur. The biggest problem so far has been getting the lines up to speed with the new system and the problem that arises when a student runs out of money and does not replenish their account. One tremendous benefit of the program is for kids that receive financial aid through the state funded free and reduced price lunch program. No one can see what is being charged for a lunch, so the stigma and embarrassment is taken out of the process.
