Day 1:
 
Finish: Students explain something important about themselves (4 minutes, graded).
  • Plan: Each student teaches the class to do or to know something, with emphasis on performance values and content (4 minutes, graded).
  • Days 2 and 3:
    1. Students examine each other’s essays, ranking them by the informal rubric that they have devised.
  • Students finish one college app in response to the generic list handed out by teacher or in response to actual colleges that they may apply to.
  • Standard 3.2, 4.1

    ACE/AP English (meeting days ABD)

      
    Sequence of class work:
    On Monday, 06/06/03, we meet in the Public Meeting Room to register for ACE credits.
      
    This week, with the assistance of Mr. Brock, the librarian, you will continue research on a topic drawn from a list that I will provide. This project ends on October 17.

    REMINDER: ON WEDNESDAY, 10/01, WE WILL BE USING THE CCC LIBRARY IN CORNING. BRING MONEY FOR LUNCH. WE LEAVE BY 8 A.M.

    Sequence through week:

    1. Essay due at start of first class: Everyone has a close friend at one time or another. In a well-written essay of about 200 words, show how you or your friend proved the friendship. Make sure that you explain why you or your friend acted as you did. Due start of next class.
    For Daybook, 27-29, 33-40, follow directions.
    Review first seven Global voc. if time permits, with students using their learning styles/multiple intelligences. Add next three items. Plan test toward end of week.

    Examine our class work more closely, especially use of the essay rubric for the “friends” composition. Review vocab. Students may work on other subjects, with teacher leading them into using ELA skills.
