'To cope with a changing world, any entity must develop the capacity of shifting and changing - of developing new skills and attitudes; in short, the capability of learning.' - - A De Gues, The Living Company

Greetings from Wayne Central School District. Below are some items of interest.

Newsletter:

1. Computer Use Agreement: Following the dismissal of two employees last year, a committee was set up to review our computer use documents. Headed by Director of Technology, Kathy Green, the committee consisted of teachers, computer technology people, administrators and Board members. The committee did a very complete job of reviewing and modifying procedures and should be commended. Those changes were approved by administrative council. The committee decided that faculty would be trained in the procedures by a teacher from the committee who taught in that particular building. That was a great way of dealing with the sensitivity of the issues. It was decided to do that at the first faculty meeting of this year. I have enclosed a copy of the form for your perusal.

2. Administrative Discussion: I will be presenting a review of our administrative staff at our next Board meeting (executive session). This is done each year to keep the Board informed of their progress.

3. Attendance: I reviewed attendance numbers with you at our last Board meeting. I have attached the actual sheet. Our total number of students is listed at the bottom of the third column from the right. As you can see the one place we were off in our projections is the high school, which was up 50 more than projected. Most of these were move ins.

4. Freewill Picnic: Our own Assistant Superintendent along with Board president made it on the front page of the paper. It wasn’t for anything they did wrong! See enclosed picture.

5. Letter to the Editor: Page 12 of the same paper had a letter from which you may receive some phone calls. The writer makes some pretty strong charges about his school. Luckily he lives in the Marion School District. Unluckily the letter never says that and the address is Walworth. I alerted Marion to the letter. They are well familiar with this gentleman. Unfortunately many of our residents will think he is talking about us. I thought about a response or clarification, but that would only bring more attention. I did talk to Patrick (editor) about it.

6. Understanding by Design: Author and researcher, Jay McTighe was our featured speaker on Opening day for staff. He is the author of Understanding By Design, which the district has chosen as its instructional model. I have enclosed some information he presented that day so you could have a better understanding about the program

Dear Ms. Lawkowski:

I have received your service agreement for the 2003-2004 school year. We have benefited from your services these last couple years and appreciate the service you offer.

It is the decision of the Board of Education that we proceed with the final stages of our policy update and handbook maintenance in house. Therefore, we will not be entering into a service agreement with Erie I BOCES Policy Services for the 2003-2004 school year.

We thank you for the expertise you have provided and will look forward to working with you again should the need arise in the future.
