The Public Participation section of the June 11
th
meeting began with residents voicing their opinions on the usage of the
basketball court located behind the Middle School. Concern was voiced over recent vandalism, police calls, and
disorderly behavior of some players. During the reports and announcement sections, the following were discussed.
High School Athletic Banquet when the following students were recognized:

Larry Hubright Memorial Award – Jonathan Ameele
•
Michael & Maureen Wright Scholarship Athlete – Alex Bean
•
Orphix Fraternity Sportsmanship Award – Dean Ganskop and Jennie Orbaker
•
Carl Cook Memorial Scholarship – Jeff Starr
•
Coaches Character Award – Alex Bean and Jennie Orbaker
•
Craig Stritzel Outstanding Seniors Athlete – Jason Dennie and Jennie Orbaker
High School Music Concert where the following awards were presented:

Louis Armstrong Jazz Award – Ryan Walvoord
•
John Phillip Sousa Band Award – Ryan Walvoord
•
Rick Milks Scholarship – Tanessa Martin
Also, Kudos were given to the Middle School and Elementary School staff for the recent Festival of Arts programs. Both
buildings were packed with displays of students’ work and musical presentations.
Under Old Business, the Superintendent and Board thanked all of the town residents for their overwhelming support of the
School Budget. The Community’s support for education is greatly appreciated. Also, under Old Business, the Board
reviewed their goals for this school year. A final review and rating of their progress will be part of the next Board agenda.
The following teachers were appointed to positions: (These positions replace teachers who are retiring this year.)

Daniel Sherman – Science
Other actions taken included a change in title for Wendy Feeney; her title will change to that of Assistant Superintendent
for Instruction. Two textbooks, one for a new Environmental Science course and the other for Grade 5 Social Studies,
were also approved. Salaries for the Administrative Staff, nonunion employees, and classified substitutes were also
approved. The Board also acted upon the Superintendent’s recommendation to purchase gift certificates from local
businesses for students who have earned multiple years of perfect attendance. Rewarding students for perfect attendance
underlines the importance of a strong work ethic throughout life.
A lengthy discussion of the basketball court usage resulted in the Board approving the closing of the court for 30 days
while new policies and procedures can be implemented. A meeting has been set for discussion of next steps. This
meeting will take place on Thursday, June 26
th
at 7:00 p.m. in the Middle School MultiPurpose Room. All residents who
wish to work towards a solution are invited to attend.
