“ …Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great battlefield of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of that field as a final resting-place for those who here gave their lives that this nation might live…”           - Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburgh Address

Greetings from Wayne Central School District. Below are some items of interest.

Newsletter:

1. Senior Trip Update – The senior trip went well, although there were two students sent home early for violating the curfew. One parent is angry because she does not feel her son was treated fairly.

2. High School Moving Up Day – Today was our moving up day and traditional senior prank day. We had a senior drive a tractor to school pulling a trailer. Seniors stood on the trainler in front of the school and waved a class of 2003 sign to passers by. Students were supposedly riding their bikes to school, but the turn out was light. I think they were afraid of getting rained on during their ride home.

3. Bus Parent I had a recent dealing with a bus parent who may be contacting you. Usually we can solve these things, but she is upset because the driver has her two children sitting in the front of the bus. I have enclosed a write-up on the incident from Mr. Prince.

4. 8th Grade English Test Scores – Attached is the D&C article on test scores. We are about in the middle of Monroe County for Grade 4 and in the upper third for grade 8. We have our sights set on beating Fairport next.

5. MCC – On Wednesday we concluded negotiations with MCC on the extension campus. A resolution has to now be passed by our county supervisors supporting the site. Supervisors Dick Clark and Frank Guelli have agreed to jointly sponsor the resolution. There will be some complaints from CCFL because they believe Wayne County “belongs” to them. I don’t believe it will be a big problem. If all goes well by fall, you will see a sign at the south end of the Campus, identical to the North end with the words Monroe Community College Extension Site. We are also in the process of designing a three flagpole site for the middle front of the school, which will hold an US flag, a Wayne flag, and a MCC flag.
