Greetings from Wayne Central School District. Below are some items of interest.

Newsletter:

1. Grade 5 Social Studies Tests – Enclosed is the chart of last year’s K-5 Social Studies test, which I talked about last night. We should be very proud of our students and staff. I ask that you do not go bragging about this to other districts further down on the chart as school districts have agreed not to try to make each other look bad (there are enough people already doing that).

2. Student Suspensions – We had some recent suspensions you may hear about. A middle school student was suspended for bringing a rather large knife to school. A male and a female high school student were suspended for being caught in a very compromising situation in a bathroom. Finally, this morning I suspended the son of the lady who called the TV station about us going to the Manor House. Her son threw an object at Mrs. Morrin’s car apparently denting it. What is going on this week?

3. Custodial Staff – The High school custodial staff deserves to be commended for all their efforts during the past week with the ice storm and the damage that was caused. Don Davis, Bob Miller, Ted Hargarther, Tom Brandt and others spent many hours tending to the buildings and doing their best to minimize damage. The cleaners came in and did a tremendous job cleaning up the h igh school after the sheltering. Thanks to all for their assistance.

4. Student Variety Show – Last night, while we were holding our Board meeting, the high school held its variety show. I don’t know if it was because they had been at home for 5 days, but the student behavior was very disappointing. Miss Young and Mr. Jones have spoken to some of the students. We will be making some changes before we hold our next evening assembly.

5. US Military from Wayne – In response to the district newsletter, we have received four names and pictures of Wayne Central Graduates who are currently serving in the Armed Forces. One student is serving in Iraq as a member of the “Special Ops.” We will be planning a bulletin board and web link to honor them.

6. Spring Break - Best wishes to you and your family for a pleasant spring recess and Easter holiday. I hope you can take some time and get away (maybe to someplace without snow!). I will be gone next week to Savannah, Georgia and will be returning on Monday, April 21. Larry and Sandy will be working this week if you should need to speak to someone.
