“One day Alice came to a fork in the road and saw a Cheshire cat in a tree. Which road do I take? she asked. Where do you want to go? was his response. I don't know, Alice answered. Then, said the cat, it doesn't matter. - - Lewis Carroll, British Writer
Greetings from Wayne Central School District. Below are some items of interest.
Newsletter:
1.
| Class Accounts: Board members were curious about what happens to money left in accounts after a class has graduated. Greg has checked on this and found that it does go to student council. Often student council will give it to the new senior class.
|
2.
| Newark Athletics: You will recall that at our recent basketball contest against Newark there were some incidents. Last night we hosted Newark for wrestling. Marc had three sheriffs there and there was no incidents. Incidentally we won 59-3.
|
3.
| School Aid Article: Enclosed is a recent article on State Aid. As we discussed at our Board meeting, it will be a tight year for everyone across New York State. At this time I believe we will be in better shape than most of the County (although I am hesitant to say something now I will regret later). I will let you know what I find out in Albany.
|
4.
| Scholar Athletes: Enclosed is our recent list of our Scholar Athletes. As you can see our students did very well.
|
5.
| Model Schools: At our next meeting the High School Model School Design team will present our plan for achieving a world class high school. I am very proud of their work and believe you will be pleased also. This was a desire the Board expressed to me when I first interviewed here three years ago. There was a feeling we had slipped academically from the place of prominence we had held for many years. We have made good progress these last three years but this is will really create that world class school you asked for.
|
With our 14.9 million dollar facilities project our students will have a great facilities. With Model Schools they will have that great program to go with the facilities. Obviously there will a cost associated with the program. We will be asking that we devote a five year plan to the project, putting 2% additional in the budget the first year for model schools and 1% each of the next 4 years. That means that over 5 years our current $30 million budget would rise by 1 million for model schools.
6.
| Congratulations: Nathan Patterson achieved his 100 Career Varsity Wrestling Victory.
|
7.
| Football Position: Attached are the list of candidates, the timeline, and brochure on our football coaching position. As you can see there has been considerable interest. Some of the candidates have excellent credentials. Most outside candidates are looking for a position also. A couple have said they would come if we had a $70,000+- package. I don't believe we will have any positions like that, but I told Marc to keep them interested so at least we can talk to them. These people would of course be the Monroe County head coaches some of whom you may recognize on the list. I was pleased with the amount of interest that it generated. There are also a number of inside candidates.
