Greetings from Wayne Central School District. Below are some items of interest.

Newsletter:

1. Legislative Grant-  We have received word from Senator Nozzolio’s office that we will be receiving a $5,000 grant to offset some of the expenses from the purchase of Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs). Although the total cost including training was closer to $25,000 every bit helps.

2. BOCES Vote Results – The vote passed with a total of 4447 votes cast; 3241 yes - 1206 no. This takes some pressure off us about the return of our classrooms.

3. Virtual Charter School- Recently we talked about a Virtual Charter School coming to Fayetteville New York. The school would have allowed homeschoolers to have districts pay tuition for them. The program has hit a snag which has thankfully sidetracked it for now. The company, K12 Inc. is run by former U.S. Education secretary William Bennett. His school would provide students with home computers, other resources and teachers online. We have approximately 68 students who could theoretically take advantage of this. Luckily A provision of the school charter law requires that schools be in one building. In the virtual school students would have been educated in their home. I am sure there will be an appeal so we will keep you abreast.

4. Parent Access to student information- One of our goals is that by 9/01/03 we will provide parent access to attendance and grade information about their children through our web. The committee has been studying the issue this fall and has selected Parent Connect and Integrade Pro as the software we will use. It will require the hiring of a ½ time webmaster to manage the system as well as training for our staff in the use of the grading software. So long as we are able to financial handle it, everything should be up and running by our target date.
5. Vandalism - At Thursday night's game against Newark a number of vehicles were broken into and items stolen. Police were called and are investigating. Apparently the same thing happened last week at Gananda. Parents were obviously very upset.

6. Pepper Spray - This week on one of our buses a student used pepper spray. The boy who did it has been suspended for five days and may face additional consequences. The police were called and issued him an appearance ticket.

7. Newsletters- This will be your last newsletter of the year. Staff and students will be off. I will be working part of the time but will also spend some time with Jill and Michael. I will email you if there are any surprises.
