“Be sure to put your feet in the right place, then stand firm.”      - - Abraham Lincoln

Greetings from Wayne Central School District. Below are some items of interest.

Newsletter:

1. NYSSBA Convention - Your conference information is included in this mailing. We are all staying at the same hotel. It appears to be a great convention with plenty of useful programs. I need to leave for a while on Saturday in order to attend an Eagle Scout induction ceremony. Lets meet briefly on Thursday night to coordinate things.

2. Wayne County Mail - Enclosed are a couple of outstanding articles from the Mail. The first one on our recent staff development day was well done and answers the often asked question, “what do teachers do on those staff development days’. The second one is an editorial that was very interesting. I believe that Patrick raised some important points that were boiling below the surface and tended to rise up when I presented in Walworth. The Walworth recreation director’s letter was an example of what Patrick was saying. I was never very successful at countering those feelings.

3. Three Board Meetings - I have not yet received an agenda on the 3 Boards meeting in Walworth this Thursday. Based on your requests I have submitted the following 4 items for discussion.
q Monroe Community College connection
q Drainage ditch on north side of high school property
q Building project update
q Walworth Academy

4. Red Ribbon Week Activities – Red Ribbon Week activities will be observed from October 22 – 31 nationwide. Locally activities will include:
q Oct. 22 - “Lights on – Drugs off” – Place a candle in your window
q Oct. 23 – “Readers Day and Red Lunch Day”
q Oct. 24 –“Sock it to Drugs Day” – wear wild/mismatched socks
q Oct. 25 – “Team up Against Drugs Day” – wear team apparel
q Oct. 26 – “Lights on – Drugs Off” - Leave your lights on
q Oct. 27 - “Red Ribbon Sunday” – Area churches
q Oct. 28 - “Turn your back on Drugs Day” – wear clothes backward – inside out
q Oct. 29 – “ Drug Free from head to Toe” - Everyone wear Red

5. Rotary New Teachers Night – Each year the Rotary Club invites new teachers to attend a rotary meeting for dinner and introductions into the community where they teach. This year the event was very well attended with 25 (of the 30) new staff members and all the building principals.

6. Haunted Hayride - The Eaton sisters have outdone themselves this year with Friday and Saturday’s haunted hayrides. This year includes their newest attraction, a haunted house. Not for the feint hearted, this year’s ghouls include showing Lori and Lee as they look each morning before makeup. Come see what Thad and Joe get woken up to each morning.
