1. | Executive Session – I want to discuss our resolution of the recent CSEA informal grievance about the building aid work day. |
2. | September 11 Remembrance – Rick will start the public meeting with a moment of silence in commemoration of the tragedies of 9/11. |
3. | GAPP Program - As part of our continuing movement to upgrade and improve our High School program, I am pleased to announce that our German Program is now part of GAPP (German American Partnership Program). We are being linked with a sister city in Germany and will be exchanging students on an annual basis. German Instructor, Mrs. Carolyn Straub will be explaining the details of this program to you, and has enclosed a brief description. I was part of this program four years ago as a host father to a German student. A year ago, my son Michael spent 4 weeks with a host family in Germany. It was one of the best experiences of his life, not just because of what he got to see, but more importantly because of what he learned about another culture. We hope to take our first group of Wayne Ambassadors to Germany this summer. |
4. | Capital Project Update - I will be discussing progress on the capital project. Attached to this newsletter is a schedule of presentations and activities where the project will be either presented or information will be displayed. We will also bring you information on handicap accessibility for the OE Gym. |
5. | Opening Day Report - Opening day went very smoothly. The traffic situation has been aided by moving the student drop off location. The traffic back up continues, however, there is less chance it will overflow into Ridge Road and 104. I will provide details of each school’s opening day as well as enrollment information at Wednesday’s meeting. |
6. | Walworth Taxes History – As I explained to you in an earlier newsletter, the Town of Walworth would like to take back the Walworth Academy. I proposed a partnership with the Town in which we would rent a classroom to provide tutoring to our suspended students. Town Supervisor, Frank Guelli was very excited about the possibility. In order for this to occur, the school would have to forgive the taxes owed on it by the now bankrupt corporation. Frank does not yet have the exact amount but estimated it to be about $10,000. This amount would be deducted from a future county sales tax check. Over the last 1.5 years the Towns of Walworth and Ontario have established closer ties with the district. This was a goal of the Board (and thus the Superintendent). Even though it will cost us some money in the short term, I believe it is in our educational, financial and political interest to move ahead on this. I would like to discuss this further with the Board and seek approval at the September 25 meeting. |
7. | Board Action Items – The Board will be reviewing personnel actions for approval. CSE/CPSE action includes the annual reviews which were completed this summer. The Consensus Agenda will include the June Treasurer’s Report, year-end financial reports, approval of budget transfers, school lunch price adjustment, awarding bids, and accepting gifts to the district. I support all of these items for approval. |
1. | Tree Removal - You received a most recent letter from the Anderson’s regarding the tree. The surveying has been done. The tree is on our property, we will be paying the bill and removing some other trees along our property line. |
