    A Public Service Announcement

    On Tuesday morning, February 19
    th
, I was called to the High School because of a bomb threat written on a locker. As you
can expect, we treat this type of incident very seriously. I called 911 and units from both the Wayne County Sheriff’s
Department and the New York State Police responded. Both law enforcement
agencies and I determined it was a prank, and we did open the school to
normal activity. An investigation into the incident has begun. The school
district is working with the Sheriff’s Office to interview students to learn as
    much as we can.

This was not a case of someone “breaking into” the school to write on a
locker. It was done by a student who was here for another purpose and, for
whatever reason, decided to write on this particular locker.

An incident of this nature always causes one to review the security measures
we have in place regarding building safety. We do review who uses the
building during weekend and nonschool hours. Over the long holiday
weekend there were a variety of sports teams, community groups and student
activities. Our High School has always been a resource for the community
and we want to maintain that as much as we can.

Come Unity Center Benefits from WHS Students

Two different student initiatives in recent months have resulted in food
donations to the ComeUnity Center. Senior
    Zack Knowlden

organized a food drive as his Eagle Scout Project.
    He
asked students to bring donations of nonperishable food. The incentive was a pizza party and goodies from Mrs.
Knowlden’s kitchen for the homeroom that donated the most items.
Thanks to all who donated and congratulations to
    the 10
    th
grade students in Ms. Johnson’s homeroom who won the pizza party.

    The second event involved the
National Honor Society and the second annual “Food Gladiator” event.
    Students once
again were asked to bring in nonperishable items to benefit the ComeUnity Center’s pantry. The amount of food donated
was proportional to the number of whipped cream pies the representative gladiators would have to throw. Each class voted
for two classmates to be gladiators. The big event occurred during the February Pep Rally. Representing the
    freshmen

    were
    Alan Champagne
    and
    Honor Eaton
    . The
    sophomores
    were
    Justin Klinkman
    and
    Liz Durfee
    .
    Dean Ganskop

    and
    Connie Kaplin
defended the honor of the juniors.
    Adrian Sonne ville
    and
    Stephanie Pilato
    led the seniors into the
ring. The faculty was also represented with Ms. Trombley and the “Masked Man,” whose identity remains a mystery (he
looked a lot like Chuck Monsees, however!).

    FROM THE HEALTH OFFICE...

    Cynthia Showman, R.N.

I have been made aware of the shortage of the Tetanus vaccine. I sent letters home to parents at the beginning of February
to inform you that your student may be past due of their Tetanus (dT) immunization. At this time only those people who
need the vaccine on an emergency basis will receive a shot. If your student is injured at school and their shots are NOT
uptodate, they may need to go to have this completed. I will notify you if this occurs. Please keep in contact with your
MD, so your student may receive the shot when it becomes available. If you have any questions, please call me at the
    Health Office at 5899625.

Spring sports season will be starting somewhere around March 4
    th
. Lists of those students who are able to participate will
be posted outside my office by Friday, March 1
    st
. Please be sure your student hands in his/her health form (these were due
    in February).

    UPCOMING MUSIC EVENTS...

Monday, March 18 at 7:00 p.m. – District Vocal Concert in the gymnasium
This concert will include songs by all of the choirs from elementary through senior high. They will be performing in the
gymnasium, so that seating will not be as big a problem as in the past, and every choir will be able to hear the others. Cast
members in the high school musical will also be presenting some musical numbers from the upcoming show, “Once Upon
A Mattress.” To alleviate parking problems which occur at this concert, a shuttle bus will be available from the Middle
School, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Pl
    ease consider using this service.

    Expectations…
    from the Assistant Principal
    Norlyn V. Legler
It has been my desire to establish and maintain a climate for learning that is respectful, purposeful, physically
safe and ensuring that all students have the opportunity to be successful learners. The school rules provide
the foundation for this organizational structure. Student management now plays a critical role in this
    educational continuum.

I have focused my attention to the twin purposes of academic preparation and individual selfdevelopment for
all students. It is time for students to accept responsibility and learn at high levels. There are two parts of
responsibility that need to be fulfilled by students. The first goal for student responsibility should be to arrive
on time to school and go to all classes. The second goal for student responsibility should be to actively
engage your learning across the content areas.

If students have not shown respect for learning, staff or peers, then I have connected them with a
consequence. Each consequence has a detention step level attached to it. Students must fulfill all detentions
assigned. Parents are invited to show support for learning by developing a partnership with Williamson Senior
    High School.

I am committed to connecting students to learning in positive ways. My expectation is for students to stay
actively engaged in learning every day in class. This strong educational leadership will encourage, facilitate
and support sustained learning involvement. Students get to it!
