Last night’s Board of Education Meeting began with a moment of silence to recognize
the national tragedy that occurred the previous day. During Committee Reports Bill
Herbert asked for donations of daffodil bulbs which he will plant on Saturday, October
6
th
with the help of the local Boy Scouts. Both Gretchen Craft and Deborah Larson
reported on the annual faculty picnic, while Board President, Bucky Jordan, reported on
opening day activities.
The Consent Agenda was approved. Items included substitute teacher hiring, a request
for leave from Maynard Bixby, the resignation of three monitors, and several hirings.
Under Reports to the Board additional topics were elicited for the Building Principal
Reports. District Administrators were invited to join in a discussion on the Risk &
Prevention Factors Survey that was administered during the 20002001 school year.
Additional information on the subject will be gained by administering the Assets Survey
this school year. Also under reports, the Board received a written report and questioned
Steve Parker, who conducts our annual census. District enrollment figures from this
census are similar to the previous years. One CSE Case and an approval for
transportation were acted upon.
Under New Business the Board conducted the first reading of three policies that deal with
the recently enacted SAVE legislation. The Board also recognized the Cheerleading
Booster Club.
The first topic under Old Business was the discussion of repairs of th
e bus garage roof.
Options will be explored to handle this repair. The process for development of the five
year plan was also discussed. The Board will work with a committee to establish the
initial prioritized list. The list will then be brought back to the entire Board and be
reviewed over several Board Meetings. The final decision made under Old Business was
to use voting machines versus paper ballots in the upcoming Board of Education election.
After Announcements and Public Participation the meeting was recessed into Executive
Session at 9:42 p.m. At 10:10 p.m. the Board returned to Open Session and then
Adjourned at 10:11 p.m.
