Feature of the Month: "How to
'Drug-Proof' Your Child" |
|
Recently, there seems to be an increase in the usage of drugs by school age children. A trend of drug use socially is on the rise. General Barry McCaffrey, Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy, in our country has some steps to drug-proof your child. Some of the ways are to:
- Set family standards on drugs and alcohol use.
- Let kids know consequences and punishments for violating family rules.
- Set aside time everyday to talk with your kids, listen and care.
- Help your child establish realistic goals.
- Know your children's friends, spend time with them.
- Get excited about things your kids care about. Do fun things as a family.
- Be aware of loss of interest in school or hobbies, or mood swings.
- Talk with your kids about duties and responsibilities for the future.
- Make home a positive place.
- Be a nosy parent. Ask kids questions. Tell your kids you are doing this because you love them.
