Greetings from Wayne Central School District. Below are some items of interest.

Newsletter:

1. Wednesday Board Meeting: Last week’s Board meeting has been rescheduled for this Wednesday. I know three of you have to be away (Mark, Joyce, Tim). That leaves six for a quorum. If anyone else is going to be unable to attend, please let Rick or I know. We will have the meeting as long as we have five people.

2. Gun on Bus: As reported, a student had a pellet gun on the bus on Friday. This was a small bus with six students and an aide. These are students who have had problems in regular school and attend an alternative program in Monroe County. Apparently the young man had purchased the gun at his alternative school that day. One of the girls saw him loading the gun on the bus and told the aide (Kathy Parks). Kathy went back and talked to the boy. She eventually was able to get the gun from him. Shirley Montgomery (bus driver) called in that there was a gun on the bus and needed immediate help. We called 911 and Fred and I headed to the scene. When we got there a sheriff had arrived and had the student in the cop car. We talked to the driver, aide and students. The students were fine. The driver and aide were a bit shaken. They hadn’t known at first what kind of weapon it was. I think we were all relieved it was a pellet gun, though we do know the damage even one of those guns can do. The young man is 17 and is going to be charged with having a weapon on the bus. Parents of all the students were contacted by Michelle Scheik’s office.

3. Middle School Mid Year Tests: We are trying something new with middle school mid-term tests. We are trying to model our tests after those given by New York State. In this way our students will be more familiar with the State’s testing methods and hopefully be successful. I asked Mr. Armocida to explain the procedure in a letter to you which I have enclosed. One issue that might arise is a parent’s complaint about students not having lunch until they arrive home.
