Greetings from Wayne Central School District. Below are some items of interest.

1. Shooting In Ontario – As I am sure you have all heard in the media, there was a murder in Ontario this past Monday morning. The person who committed the fatal shooting is the father of two of our students (HS & MS) and a third daughter that just graduated in June. It is believed that all three children were in the home at the time of the incident. The woman who was shot was the mother of one of our high school students as well. Elaine Brooks’ (the woman who was shot) son may have been in the home as well. I discussed the use of our scrip team in this case, but felt since school was not in session that we would not take any action at this time. Lory Morrin, Bob Armocida and I will continue following the events to determine if the school should offer intervention services.

2. Internet Problems - You may be aware of the fact that we have been experiencing internet/email problems pretty much all week. The “Tech” department tells me that it was caused by a “hardware failure” at Lakenet (Our BOCES provider), followed by a “configuration failure” in the router at Wayne, followed by another Lakenet hardware problem. This impacted many of the school in the WFL area since most of them use the BOCES services. I believe we are up and running again. Sorry for the inconvenience. If you have been attempting to send or receive any information, you might want to verify that it was indeed processed.

3. School Resource Officer – Trooper Frank Ryan has been assigned to Wayne Central to serve as the School Resource Officer. He was expected to begin his duties in October, however I just learned that the Governor’s Office has moved that date up to September 1st. This will be make a much better situation with the officer here right from the opening day of school. He will be attending the August 27th Board meeting to meet the Board.

4. High School Assistant Principal - Jeff Pirrozolo has accepted the position of Assistant Principal at the High School. I will be sending out a copy of his resume/application in the next board letter. He is also planning on attending the August 27th Board meeting. I will plan on an executive session prior to the meeting to allow you an opportunity to meet with him. His appointment will be presented to you for approval at that same August 27th Board meeting. If you have any questions, please give me a call or send an email.

5. School Boards Meetings – Just a friendly reminder to let Lori know if you are planning on attending the coming NYSSBA “School Governance Conference” (9/5-7) and the Annual Convention in October.

6. MCC Satellite School at Wayne - I received a phone call from Dick Clark today informing me the Wayne County Board of Supervisors Committee on History and Education discussed the creation of a Monroe Community College Satellite School at Wayne Central. Although he was not able to cast a vote, he did serve as an advocate for this new educational opportunity in our county. The committee voted to support the creation of this sight. The next step is for the entire Board of Supervisors to vote on the recommendation of the Committee on History and Education. Dick felt comfortable that the Supervisors would vote in support of this project at their August 19th meeting.

7. Honored Guest Pass - Marc Blankenberg has enclosed an “Honored Guest Pass” to all board members that entitles the pass holder to free admission to all home athletic events. The Fall Sports Season officially starts on August 28 with a girls tennis match at home – 4:15 p.m.
