The three great essentials to achieve anything worth while are, first, hard work; second, stick-to-itiveness; third, common sense." --Thomas Edison, inventor and businessman

Board Agenda:

1. Reminder:  The meeting will begin in the board room for executive session and then continue in the Performing Arts Center where we will have our budget hearing. There will be mics on the tables for the board members to share between them and we may need to “wire up” the main talkers (Michael and Frank).

2. Executive Session: Principals will be joining us to review tenure recommendations for Janice Becker, Lisa Clemons, Michelle Farley, Jaime Gallo, Lois Harris, Janience Jackman, Justin Marino, Anna McGrath, Jennifer Saul, Julie Schwarz, Kristen Stiles and Jeffrey Ugine. I will be discussing Michelle Scheik. We will also discuss two staff that are not being recommended to return to our district. Mr. Callahan will be joining us to review tenure recommendations and staff that are not being recommended to return to our district.

3. Strategic Goals/Board Meeting: This is a continuation of the discussion began last meeting. President Frank will lead the conversation on how we might do this.

4. Financial Update: Mr. Atseff will provide his monthly financial report.

5. Student Representative: High School Senior Michael Miles will be the Student Representative at this board meeting. Mike has attended prior meetings as a member of student council. Mike is a three sport athlete who participates in cross country, indoor track and outdoor track and field. Mike is a member of the Varsity Club, the National Honor Society, recently earned Eagle Scout honors and is an outstanding member of our school community.

6. Business Items: The March Treasurer’s reports are presented for approval. Attached is a resolution for the candidate for the area 2 Director for NYSSBA. Also included is the surplus piano bid award. You have a gift to the district from the MS PTO, several health contracts and budget transfers. I recommend approval of all items.

7. Superintendent Evaluation: President Frank wants to talk to you about the superintendent evaluation.

Board Letter:

1. Student Accident: We had a serious student accident recently which required one of our high school student be taken by ambulance to the hospital, and be held overnight in intensive care for observation for internal injuries. Mr. Siracuse and I responded to the call. Fortunately, the injuries were not as serious as they could have been. The accident occurred at the intersection of Rt. 104 and 350 as students were arriving to school. I am unsure if any tickets were issued. Both students were returned to school after a couple of days.

2. Budget Flyer: The budget newsletter has gone to the printer now and will be delivered to residents at the appropriate time (after the pubic hearing and 7 days before the vote). As usual, Amy has done a nice job with the information.
3. Prom Weekend:      This Saturday is Prom and one of the weekends we always worry about.   The prom will be attended by all 3 of our high school administrators and many staff members as chaperones. We will be breathalizing students when they come into the Prom. Still it is hard to control what they do afterwards. We have to depend upon moms and dads for that. Having lost a student on Prom night back when I was an assistant principal, I can tell you it is a horrible thing that stays with you for ever. Connie would have been 41 this year.
4.
Willy Wonka: The Middle School Musical and World Premiere of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is also this Weekend. I do hope you all will have an opportunity to attend. I have attached a nice article which appeared in Thursday’s paper, featuring one of Amy’s photos. (Amy was able to retrieve it from the D&C archives on line.)
5.
Student Arrest: A high school student in our 6-1-1 class confided to one of our counselors that he was having relations with a sixth grade boy and the second grade brother. This was occurring in the trailor park where they live. The student has been arrested and is in jail. He was living with his grand mother who says she won’t bail him out and he can’t come back to live with her. He was molested himself when he was little. We have met with the young children and their mother. Counseling is being provided to them. They will need a lot of support in the coming years.
6.   FitnessGram: I have attached the FitnessGram that Marc Blankenberg referenced at the last board meeting.
