Greetings from Wayne Central School District. Below are some items of interest.

Board Meeting:

1. Executive Session:

2. Retiree Reception: We will be honoring our retirees with a plaque, resolution reading and a break to share coffee and cake. I look forward to the opportunity to congratulate those who have spent many years serving our students and school community.

3. Textbook Presentation – Lance Jason, High School Science Teacher, will be presenting the committee recommendation for the new environmental science textbook. I support the selection of this textbook and recommend its adoption.

3. NYSSBA Proposed Resolutions - Last week you were mailed the proposed resolutions booklet that needs to be discussed by the board prior to the annual convention. Our voting delegate will be casting votes either in favor of or against the proposals. The proposals that gain the support of the New York State School Boards representative districts will be taken to Albany and put on the table of our legislators. Please take some time prior to the October 8 meeting to read through them and note your thoughts as to whether the proposal should be supported or discarded.

4. Financial Update: Greg will provide his monthly financial update on our expenditures and cash flow.

5. Personnel/CSE-CPSE Action: I support the recommendations as presented.
6.    Consensus Agenda:  Enclosed for approval is the August Treasurer’s Report, the Operations & Maintenance Paper bid, the Red Ribbon Week Resolution indicating the school district’s support of Red Ribbon Week and it’s message, and the charge to the Policy Committee. I support all the recommendations as presented.

Newsletter:

1. Homecoming: If you happened to be in attendance at Friday evening’s events, you would have seen the tremendous crowd that came out to support our students. Unfortunately, the football team was not very successful in their efforts against a strong Victor team. The student parade was lively and nicely done. The varsity soccer games were rained out Saturday evening, but both the JV teams were able to rack up wins. There were no incidents reported.

2. Full Day Kindergarten: Administrative Council has begun discussion on the full day kindergarten program and what it would mean to the district to implement it. Discussion includes space needs, staffing needs, instructional needs, transportation impact and funding options. We will be presenting a report to the Board in November.

3. BOCES Lease Expiration – Discussion is underway with BOCES to prepare a schedule for the phases of their move to another facility. There are several items that must be addressed including the actual movement of their furniture, the restoration of the building to the condition it was in when they took possession and the timeline for our staff to prepare that area for use by our staff and students. I will keep you posted on information as discussion progresses.

4. Golden Years Passes Marc Blankenberg and I attended the Ontario Senior Citizen groups (October 1) to distribute the Wayne Eagles Golden Years Pass to any who were interested. These passes allow senior citizens free admission to any home league athletic event and it is another way for us to encourage positive interaction between the school and our senior population. We will be presenting to the Walworth Senior Citizens Group on October 14 at the Walworth Town Hall.

5. Health & Safety Compliance Report – Attached is the health and safety checklist completed by Genesee Valley BOCES. As you can see, Mr. Davis and his staff are doing a fine job keeping our facilities safe and maintaining compliance with safety regulations.
