Greetings from Wayne Central School District. Below are some items of interest

Board Meeting:

2. Dr. Marinelli Visit - BOCES Superintendent Dr. Marinelli will be here with two of his administrators. They will be presenting the building project slated for a December vote. You will recall that this will provide space for the children currently using our space.

3. Fall Sports Update- Athletic Director Marc Blankenberg will give us a recap of what has been a very successful fall season.

5. NYSSBA Conference Update- We ask Board members who attended the conference to give a brief update on interesting programs they saw. It is our hope that as a result of this discussion we will be able to have a work session (perhaps our next meeting) to further explore some of the promising ones.

6. Board Action Items – You can see from the packet that there are some items for Board action. Once again Sandy Stramonine is making a generous contribution to our school.

POLICY COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES

DATE: Tuesday, October 29, 2002 TIME: 4:00 p.m. PLACE: District Office

PRESENT:   Trustees Triou, Lyke, Diller, Mr. Switzer

PRIOR MEETING MINUTES: Minutes of the October 15, 2002 were reviewed, revised and filed.

OLD BUSINESS:

Proposed Policy – Use of Defibrillators: Mr. Triou shared sample copies of policies on this topic from Erie #1 BOCES and from the policy workshop he attended at the state school boards’ meeting in Syracuse. Committee identified portions of each to refer to Mr. Havens for consideration by the staff committee working on a draft of this policy for committee review.

Format of Policy Shift to Erie #1 BOCES:: Committee reviewed format developed by Mr. Switzer to document the shift from our existing handbook to the new handbook. The format was accepted and the committee will review the total handbook matrix at the next meeting.

NEW BUSINESS:

Committee Charge for 2002-2003: Committee members reviewed a draft of the charge for the committee for the 2002-2003 school year. The draft was accepted and referred for consideration by the Board of Education on November 6th.

NYSSBA Workshop - Policy: Mr. Triou noted topics covered at the policy workshop he attended at the state school boards’ meeting in Syracuse. Our policy handbook and process compares very well to the standards and questions raised at that meeting. A suggestion he learned from that workshop was to insure that the new attendance policies that districts are now reviewing are correlated to the Code(s) of Conduct adopted in S.A.V.E. policies last year.
