Greetings from Wayne Central School District. Below are some items of interest.

Board Meeting:

1. Executive Session - School attorney Wayne VanderByl will meet with the Board at 6:30 to discuss my proposed new contract. Wayne has to leave at 7:15 for another meeting. I thought, since we’ll have a few minutes prior to the regular session, that I could be available if you had any questions for me prior to voting on it in the consensus agenda.

2. Ginna Negotiations – I will provide an update on the negotiating with Ginna assessment. As of today we are very close to a formal agreement. We don’t have it officially buttoned up and of course things can always fall apart. I am optimistic however, that by Thursday’s meeting Mr. Robusto and I will be in a position to provide you with details.

3. Building Project Report  - Greg and Michael Jordan will provide updates on the building project status.

4. New Staff Introductions – Mark Callahan and principals will be introducing our new district staff.

5. CDEP Report – Sandy Woodard will be making her report on the Comprehensive District Education Plan (CDEP). This plan outlines an overall educational plan for all students, in the varying groups, and according to State Education regulations and guidelines. Every district is required to have an educational plan. CDEP is considered one of the most comprehensive. You will recall that we used data from the draft form of the report to drive this year’s goals.

Newsletter:

1. NYSCOSS – I will be attending the State Superintendent’s conference in Albany from Sunday – Tuesday this week. If you should need me, I will have my cell phone with me. You may also call Lori to get word to me.

2. Reading Buddies Program – The reading buddies program is entering its 4th year and has been a positive experience for both the students involved and for the community members that volunteer. As always, there are more students in need than there are volunteers. If you find you have the time to volunteer, on your own or with a partner, we would love to have you. Ann Blocher, the Reading Buddies Coordinator, is doing a wonderful job and can be reached at 524-1150 ext. 8412.

3. Volleyball Incident – Thursday evening (9/16) someone on the boys volleyball team bus threw an object out the bus window (suspected water bottle) while returning from a match in NR-Wolcott on Rt. 104. The object hit a car and damaged the windshield. The police were called and the bus was detained while the police investigated. Mr. Blankenberg was notified and came to the scene. No student was forthcoming in admitting to throwing the object. The police eventually agreed to let the bus return to school, and continue the investigation Friday. Mr. Blankenberg continued to question students and informed the team that the Friday match would be cancelled if the players were not forthcoming with information. The student has now admitted to the incident. At the time of this writing, the disciplinary action has not been finalized. I believe the police will be pressing charges as well.
