    1. Day 1: Students take notes from listening— Dear Abby on alcoholism. Check notes for accuracy, fullness, conciseness, organization.
    Students turn to notion of main idea, examining Regents Prep 30-32 and 32-33. From hand out (from Regents Prep   34-35 ), students find main idea, etc. of text. What could they do to help themselves?
    Then do same for 37-38.
    In any time remaining for day 1, students work further on River project.
    Day 2, students take test on chapters 16 to end of The River and then orally justify answers to handout guide for chapters 16 to end. Students make clear any changes in Brian’s character or behavior; what are they learning about him; could they act like him; what makes him act as he does?
    Students compare notes for essay (see handout) bringing River project to close. Essay is due at end of last class this week.
