LYONS HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA - All Students

Course Requirements

English – 4 units	Health – ½ unit
Science – 3 units	Art/Music – 1 unit
Social Studies – 4 units	PE – 2 units
Mathematics – 3 units	Electronic Information Processing/ Life Skills – ½ unit
Foreign Language – 1 unit*

Test Requirements

1. English Language Arts Regents (English 11)
2. Global Studies Regents (Global Studies 2)
3. US History and Government (US History)
4. Science (Living Environment, Biology Extended or Earth Science)
5. Math Form A (Math A/B or Math A Ext or Algebra Regents)

Regents diploma:
� Minimum passing score of 65 on (5) Regents Exams.

Local diploma:
� Class of 2010- A minimum grade of 65 must be achieved on at least 3 of 5 Regents exams AND a minimum grade of 55 on remaining 2 Regents exams

� Class of 2011- A minimum grade of 65 must be achieved on at least 4 of 5 Regents exams AND a minimum grade of 55 on remaining 1 Regents exam.

Students with an educationally handicapping condition may meet testing requirements through Regents Competency Test(s) if a score of 55 or higher is not achieved on the Regents Exam(s). * Students with an educationally handicapping condition may be exempt from the foreign language requirement.

Units
22 units are required for graduation.

Benchmark
Each student must successfully complete the Benchmark paper and presentation. The Benchmark activity is coordinated through 12^th grade English.

Portfolio
Each student must successfully complete the portfolio requirement in his/her senior year.

Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation (RAD)

In addition to the 5 required Regents exams & completing all of the requirements for a Regents diploma students seeking RAD must also complete the following:

1. An additional Regents level science course and a score of 65+ on the corresponding Regents exam.

2. Math B Regents course (or equivalent) and a score of 65+ on the Regents exam.

3. A total of three units of foreign language with a passing score on the corresponding Regents Examination (see note below).

**Minimum score of 65 on a minimum of (8) Regents Exams**

The minimum passing score for a 'RAD' is 65 for all 8 Regents Examinations.

Note: Students seeking a Regents diploma with Advanced Designation who pursue a 5-unit sequence in technology, or vocational education are exempt from the foreign language requirement. Be aware that all students seeking a R.A.D. must complete a total of 8 Regents exams with a score of 65+.

Students identified as having an educationally handicapping condition may be exempt from the foreign language requirement for the Regents diploma or RAD. In such cases the student’s I.E.P. must state that the student is exempt from foreign language. See your counselor for more information.

VOCATIONAL EDUCATION (BOCES)

In most cases, students begin vocational education in 11^th grade. It is important to note that prior to enrollment at the Vocational School, a student must have completed:

1. English 9 and 10
2. Global 1 and 2*
3. Two units of math*
4. Two units of science*
5. One-half unit of health
6. One unit of art/music
7. Two years of physical education
8. The appropriate foreign language requirements

*including Regents exam(s), as required

Students who have not completed all of the above will not be eligible for vocational school in 11^th grade.

Offerings are subject to sufficient enrollment.

COLLEGE CLASSES

College courses require tuition, which is paid to the college. The district does not retain any tuition money.

All ‘Gemini’ courses taught through Finger Lakes Community College (FLCC) have minimum requirements for enrollment. These requirements are:

1. An overall average of 85 or higher in the corresponding subject area.

1. A Regents Examination grade of 85 or higher in the corresponding subject area.

1. Recommendation of the department.

In order to register for SUPA math, students must have the recommendation of the department.

In order to register for Science courses taught through Cayuga Community College (CCC), students must have the recommendation of the department.

On-line courses require registration through the SUNY Learning Network. On-line courses are scheduled as a part of the regular instructional day.

� Other courses, as required for a diploma

� Most (not all) 4 year colleges expect you to take a college entrance exam such as the SAT or ACT. Students typically take these exams in the spring of their Junior year & possibly again in the fall of their Senior year.

*There will be many variations in minimum preparation levels for different programs. These are guidelines only; see your counselor for information regarding specific post high school.
