Daily, students show knowledge of definitions and use of Global voc. (see list)

Through week, in order:
 
Day 1:
Students turn in their final drafts in response to the prompt on p. 85 in Preparing for the Regents Examination in English.
 
Days 2-3:
Students recall recent natural disasters: how do people react to such events? Why do we pay attention to reports of such matters, although they affect so few people and usually have no effect on us directly? Do their families have a disaster plan? Why or why not?
 
Students read Du Maurier’s “The Birds,” Elements 33-54. Next week we will answer the questions on 53 orally and in writing, at the teacher’s direction.

May 01-May 05:
Finish work on Oedipus and decide which play to work with next. Using as many critical approaches as help you, answer orally 1424, #9.
 
Once the class decides which play to examine, read either Hamlet (1568-1681) or  Death of a Salesman (1877-1950)
For Hamlet (1568-1681:
Write essay: limiting yourself to one or two characters, answer 1681, “General Questions,” #4 (You must provide at least six (6) quotations or examples from throughout the play in your essay.);
 
or    for Death of a Salesman (1877-1950)
Essay: after reading Miller's own comments on his play (1948-1951), explain how his creation, Willy Loman, shows his "indestructible will . . . to achieve his humanity." (1950) (You must provide at least six (6) quotations or examples from throughout the comments and play in your essay.).
