Message from Mr. Skeet
Dear Parents and Students:
It is almost parent conference time. Please make sure you are
scheduled for November 30
th
or December 6
th
. This is an important
time to discuss your child’s progress for the first 10 weeks of this
school year. If these dates are not convenient we can usually arrange
another time for you to meet your child’s teacher. Scheduling
arrangements can be made through our counseling office at 5899665.
It is important for the home, child, and school to be working together
and understanding each other so we can have great success with the
student. I like to use the analogy of th
e triangle as depicted below.
When each side of the triangle grows we have more success in the
middle. If one side is not doing their share we do not have as much
success. Let’s all work together for the good of your child.

Thank you for your comments concerning the
Chapter 2 packet. We are now getting into
integers. This is a challenging chapter. It is
important that students be well rested and well
fed. There will be several weeks until the next
chapter packet. We will learn how to operate with
integers and how to use them in equations.

Message from Mr. Skeet
(continued from Page 1)
Bookbags or no bookbags? That is the question! It
is so nice to be in a school that has the carrying of
bookbags as the “big” decision. If that decision is
our biggest problem we really don’t have any
problems. The final decision and end of discussion
is that each grade level team of teachers will make
the decision for their own grade level based on the
particular conditions for their students. For
example the seventh grade classes are on one side
of the building, but some of their lockers are on the
other side. Another example is that some
classrooms are smaller than others, bookbags in
these rooms on the floor is more of a problem. In
addition, we have specials rooms such as the
computer labs an
d art rooms where bookbags are
not appropriate. In summary, each team will
decide the bookbag issue.
Please take a minute and read through this issue of
the Marauder. There are so many nice activities
happening at our Middle School.
Happy Holiday Season to all. We have so much to
be thankful for in our lives. This Holiday Season is
a nice time to slow down, enjoy our family
members and reflect on all our blessings.
If anyone has any questions about our school,
please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely yours,
Douglas G. Skeet
Interim Principal

From the Health Office
By Mrs. Starr
The illnesses I have been seeing in the Health
Office are pretty typical for this time of
year:
stomach viruses, colds, and some strep throat.
Proper nutrition and adequate rest are the best
defenses for preventing yo ur child from catching
some of the illnesses they will inevitably be
exposed to. Good handwashing is also very
important. While soap and water is the best
method for infection control, there are a variety of
antibacterial and anti
viral gels available o
n the
market that do not require water and are ideal for
students who do not want to take the time to use the
lavatories for han
d washing. They make great
stocking stuffers! Chapstick and handcream also
make good stocking stuffers and can help some of
the minor discomforts of winter that sometime
cause lost classroom time. If your child is being
treated for strep throat please do not send them
back to school until they have been on antibiotics
for at least 24 hours. Remember to replace their
toothbrus h as part of their treatment. Vomiting and
temperatures of 100 degrees or more are symptoms
that should be absent for 24 hours before a student
is sent back to school.
These simple precautions are tried and true and will
help your family have healthy and happy holidays.

Mrs. Bierer’s Room
By Mrs. Bierer
We have some very persuasive folks in our
classroom! Lindsey Brothers had our mouths
watering for Taco Bell tacos, and Caitlin Garofoli
convinced us to prefer her choice of favorite
foods—fudge. This isn’t too good for the diets, but
it sure entices the children to write for persuasion.
For enrichment, ELA and Social Studies,
The First
Thanksgiving
was performed just before the
holiday. Our room was transformed into Plymouth
Plantation in 1621—Indians and all.

The Halloween Dance was sponsored by the 7/8
Student Association, and we’d like to thank our
members and parents for volunteering at this event.
We have also

Students Honored
On Saturday, November 3
rd
at the Wayne County
Volunteer Fireman’s Association annual
dinner
held at the VFW Post in Lyons four of our middle
school students were honored for saving the life of
a fellow classmate. The four students are: Robert
Goble, Matt Petrillo, Tyler Palmer and Joey Slater.
On September 28, 1999 their friend was ch
oking on
a piece of candy. Robert Goble and Matt Petrillo
successfully used the Heimlich maneuver while
Joey Slater and Tyler P
almer went for help. The
students learned this maneuver in physical
education as taught by our school nurse, Mary
Starr.

Two new officers
were selected after the last news article deadline.
Robert Verbridge does a great, albeit busy, job of
being the new Treasurer. Michael Hurlimann,
Vicepresident, has already taken over for an ailing
President.
The first November meeting found us in the multi
purpose room for old fashioned games. My
Grandma Doesn’t Like “P’s”, and The Eraser on a
Rope Game were the first ones to be tried out.
November 17th was the meeting in which to set the
scene for the 1940’s. Bambi was shown in theaters,
Pearl Harbor and the nuclear bomb shocked us,
Roosevelt and Truman were presidents, Babe Ruth
died in 1948, Howdy Doody and bubble gum were
amusing, the Rainbow Bridge was completed in
Niagara Falls, etc. We concluded with the use of
balloons as toys—even blew up a few ourselves!
PTA Corner
By Aileen Hurlimann
PTA sponsored activity nights began for 5th and
6th Grade on Friday, November 17th. There were
30 kids in attendance and they had fun playing
board games, ping pong, dodgeball and basketball.
Pop/chips/popcorn/candy bars w
ere all for sale for
$.25 each. We had a fun time. Special thanks to
those parents that chaperoned!
Special Note: All activity nights are from 6:30
8:00pm. Please make sure you come inside to pick
up your children and especially try to be on time.
7th and 8th grade activity night had to be cancelled
on Thursday, November 16th due to the fact that
only two parents were available to chaperone.
Please contact Claire Bouvier at 5898159 if you
would like to chaperone the next 7th and 8th grade
night.
Dates to post to your calendar:
5/6 Activity nights: Jan 12, Feb 2, Mar 2
7/8 Activity nights: Dec 8, Jan 5, Feb 16, Mar 9
Rollerskating Parties for 5/6 have been a success,
but once again we need to stress that your children
need to picked up on time!
