    January 24, 2003
The Board Meeting began with Board Reports, which included information from individual
Board Members on some of their latest activities. Included were the Building & Grounds
Subcommittee Meeting attended by Gretchen Craft and Bill Herbert and the Town Board
Meeting attended by President Bucky Jordan. The Superintendent reported on her trip to Albany
last week. News from the State Lawmakers is bleak. The growing State deficit will most
probably affect State funding of education. Governor Pataki’s budget presentation on January
    29
    th
will contain vital revenue information for all School Districts and State supported agencies.
Reported cuts to education could be as high as $1 billion from previous years’ levels. A
reduction of State Aid of this magnitude would mean significant cuts to keep local tax rate
    increases in the single digits.
Because of the weather conditions an abbreviated business meeting was held. Questions on the
Building Principal Reports will be forwarded to them and will be answered at future meetings.
Case Summaries were approved and a group of policies received final approval. The Board also
approved a Wicks Law Reform Resolution. The resolution, which will be forwarded to
appropriate State government officials, asks for relief for School Districts on construction
projects. If this law were to be reformed, it would mean significant savings for future capital
projects, since one general contractor could be used, in lieu of multiple contractors.
After a short Executive Session, the meeting adjourned at 8:43 p.m.
