There were two major reports to the Board. The first one dealt with the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB).
This federal law, passed in January 2002, speaks to how schools across the United States will be assessed on
the goal of having 100% of students reach proficient levels on State exams by the school year 20132014.
Each of the 50 States will be assessed on their progress towards this goal annually. The present State 4
    th
    Grade, 8
    th
Grade and High School Regents exams in English/Language Arts and Math will be assessed
beginning this year. In 2007 Science will be added. Also in 200506 every 3

    graders in these
    areas.
The second report to the Board was presented by Enrichment Teacher, Ellen
    Saxby
    , and Teacher Assistant,
Cathie Abdunnasir. They reported on the overall Enrichment Program, the number of students being served
and the types of programs and projects underway. The Enrichment Program reaches all Elementary and
Middle School students through Level 1
projects which enrich the curriculum for all students. In addition,
Level 2 and 3 projects focus on smaller groups of students who have a particular ability or interest. At
present, there are 318 students involved in projects in either of these levels. Plans for the future of this
program include implementing strategies to increase participation in Level 3 projects and the Learning Fair
and to establish a database of community members willing to share their special skills and talents with the
    students.
Under Old Business, policies reviewed by the policy committee underwent first readings. The Board
enthusiastically approved the tenure of Art Teacher, Patricia Sheridan, who was joined by her family at the
Board Meeting to celebrate her accomplishment.
After approving the discard of technology equipment, the Board recessed into Executive Session.
