Board Members shared some of their most recent activities, which included:
Breakfast of Champions at the High School to recognize students who had achieved High Honor
Roll status during 20022003 school year. A special “thank you” to Mrs. Forget and her staff for
    a great meal!
Jazz Ensemble which entertained and enriched all Middle School students earlier this week.
Elementary School walkthrough prior to tonight’s meeting. A special “thank you” to the
Elementary School Building and Grounds staff for the excellent work they are doing to keep this
    building in top shape.
Under Reports to the Board, Special Education cases were approved and each Building Principal reported
on recent happenings in their buildings. Anne Ressler, Elementary School Principal, reported on a trip to the
Memorial Art Gallery and reactions from her staff on the book they have been reading entitled, What Really
Matters for Struggling Readers. The Middle School Principal, Russ Kissinger, reported on several enrichment
activities. These included a visit to 5
    th
grade by poet M.J. Iuppa, a Holocaust presentation to 6
    th
    graders, and a
visit from a Buffalo soldier to 5
    th
grades. The High School Principal’s report highlighted the end of the year
happenings, including the Spring Sports Award program on June 5
    th
. The guest speaker for this program will be
Wayne Soares of ESPN and Walt Disney, Inc. Mr. Soares topic will be the importance of perseverance.
Director of Curriculum, Wendy Feeney, reported on the recent NYS Elementary and Intermediate English
Language Arts Assessments. In Williamson, 71% of Grade 4 students scored at the competent or highly
competent level. Sixtyfour percent of 8
    th
graders scored in that range. These percentages are above the State,
County, and similar schools averages. It is important to note that this was the first assessment where Special
Education students were tested without test modifications.
The final report to the Board was on the
    Breakthrough to Literacy
program. This program is being used
by all Kindergarten classes this year. It is a researchbased program with a proven record of increasing student’s
reading achievement. It includes fifteen minutes of daily computer use which reinforces skills individually for
students. It also includes work on comprehension, phonics, fluency, and vocabulary.
