New York State Social Studies Standards and Assessments:
Cinda Lisanto brought us up to date on what New York State did on this document over the summer. She expressed concern about the K-2 Social Studies content being part of the test. Test contains: Multiple Choice
(1/2 hour for completion), Constructed Response (1/2 hour for completion), Document-Based Question (3 to 5 on the Elementary) (1 ½ hours for completion).
Elementary has to draw, label, and identify a picture. Planning and notetaking are also part of the test.

October 29, 1999 Social Studies meeting at Red Jacket at 4:00 p.m. Topics to be discussed: Standards and changes, small groups, Elementary testing, and High School testing.
Future meeting topics: Docushare, what Romulus has accomplished, Social Studies resource guide, what goes into DBQ and CRQ, Guidelines for Constructed Response questions, rubrics, grading exams, and Global
History-scope and sequence and prototype questions.
Sharing of what was done during the summer:
Larry Gambee – Peer Review Process in White Plains
He gave an overview of what was involved in the preparation and implementation of the presentation. Outcome leads to a listing in the Academy for Teaching and Learning.
Marie Johnson – Training, construction, and completion of a webquest.
She worked with another teacher from Romulus and the Children’s librarian from the Geneva Public Library. The webquest was entitled “Early American Colonial Lifestyles.”
Jan Driscoll – Worked with the ELA program.
Jim Scarfia – New to the area from Rochester.
Cinda Lisanto – Spent the month of July working on the standards and getting the test in order in Albany and Cooperstown.
Lynn Paulson – worked on grades 6-12 standards relating to the districts scope and sequence.
