GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
In order to graduate, the student must be certified by the building principal as having met one of the following requirements.

REGENTS DIPLOMA
REGENTS DIPLOMA
The student has completed the requirements for a Regents Diploma, including 18.5 units of school credit and receives a score of at least 55% on specified Regents examinations. The units of credit must include the following:
4 units of English
4 units of social studies
(including 1 unit of American History and ½ unit each of government and economics)
2 units of science
2 units of mathematics
1 unit of art and/or music
½ unit of health education
2 units of physical education
(not counted towards completed units)
Students must have also completed successful sequences in science, math, a second language, music, art or occupational education subjects as prescribed by Commissioner’s Regulations §100.5 thru §100.7. With certain exceptions, students must have completed one (1) sequence of three (3) units of credit in a second language to earn a Regents Diploma.

Students must have completed the requirements of a local diploma, including l8.5 units of school credit, as listed above, and have successfully completed all of the following required tests & examinations.

IEP DIPLOMA
Students who have been designated as having a disability must have completed the requirements to receive an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Diploma or Local Certificate as specified in the IEP and approved by the Committee on Special Education.
A high school diploma will represent termination of the school district’s responsibility to provide additional educational training opportunities as part of the regular day school program. Any student earning an IEP diploma or Local Certificate will be informed in writing of his or her right to attend the public schools of the district until one of the following occurs:
(1)
the student earns a high school diploma
(2)
the student attains the age of 20 prior to September 1st of a school year
GRADUATION CEREMONIES
The building principal will arrange programs for appropriate awards, recognition and graduation ceremonies.
TESTING OUT
In accordance with the Commissioner’s Regulation §100.5 (d), the Board of Education provides the opportunity for students to earn up to six and one-half (6 ½) units of credit for either a Regents or Local Diploma for knowledge or study of specific course material without participation in the selected course.
Students may earn credit by examination if:
(1)
the complete the application process within established deadlines
(2)
the Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee determines that the student will benefit academically by exercising this alternative
(3)
they score 80% or higher on a comprehensive pre-test of course subject matter
(4)
they demonstrate competence in the subject area through an oral exam or project as determined by the building principal
(5)
they score 85% or higher on a comprehensive final examination at the appropriate level
