LIBRARY-MEDIA CENTERS
The purpose of the school library-media center is to meet the information needs of students, teachers, and administrators. In order to achieve this goal, a great diversity of print and nonprint materials that meet individual interests, needs and abilities is essential. The Board of Education will establish and support library-media centers to provide students, staff and administrators with:
1. library and information skills instruction
2. curriculum-related services
The responsibility for acquisition of materials and equipment is legally vested in the Board of Education. The Board of Education supports the principles of intellectual freedom inherent in the First Amendment to the Constitution and expressed in the Library Bill of Rights of the American Library Association and The Student's Right to Read of the National Council of Teachers for the selection and purchase of materials and equipment.
The library-media specialist works closely with students, staff and administrators in the selection and evaluation of materials for purchase.
Policy Adopted: January 29, 1997 Wayne Central School District
