1. PICKLE-BALL STUDY SHEET

PICKLE-BALL STUDY SHEET

Serve Player must keep 1 foot behind the end line when serving. In doubles, both players must have their foot behind the end line. The serve is made underhand. The paddle must be below the waist. The server must hit the ball out of the air on the serve. He is not allowed to hit the ball off a bounce. The serve is made diagonally cross-court and must clear the no-volley zone. Only 1 serve attempt is allowed, except when the ball hits the net and still goes in the proper service court (let). In this case the serve is retaken. At the start of each new game, the first serving team is allowed only 1 service fault before giving up the ball to the opponents. Thereafter, both members of each team will serve and fault before the ball is turned over to the opposing team.

Volley To volley a ball means to hit it in the air without first letting it bounce. All volleying must be done with the player’s feet behind the no-volley zone line.

Double Bounce Rule Each team must play their first shot off the bounce. That is, the receiving team must let the serve bounce, and the serving team must let the return of the serve bounce before playing it. After the 2 bounces have occurred, the ball can either be volleyed or played off the bounce.

Fault    Hitting the ball out of bounds
Not clearing the net on the serve or returns
Stepping into the no-volley zone and volleying the ball volleying the ball before it has bounce once on each side of the net (double bounce rule)

Scoring A team shall score a point only when serving. A player who is serving shall continue to do so until his team makes a fault. The game is played to 11 points, however a team must win by 2 points. When serving from the right hand court the server’s score shall be even, 0,2,4,6,8,10, and odd from the left, 1,3,5,7,9,11. This does not hold true in doubles. In doubles, there is no exchange of sides by partners until a point is scored. Therefore, if P1 serves from the right, and does not score a point, P2 will serve his serve from the left. If he should score, he will exchange sides with his partner and serve the next serve form the right. If he does not score, the serve will go to their opponents and when it returns, P1 will be serving from the right again.

Strategy Pickle-ball involves strategies that include lobbing, overhead slamming, passing shots from the baseline, and fast exchanges at the net. The key strategy to remember is that the team that reaches the frontcourt in a net volley position first will be in the best position to win the point. Again the most effective position is when both players on the same team are side by side in the attack position just behind the no-volley zone line.
