Writing journal requirements            9th grade English                            Mrs. Duprey

The writing journal will count as 10% of your quarter grade. While I will be reading them as the term goes on, your final grade will not be given until the end of the quarter. You will receive a due date and journals will be accepted up to that date – BUT NOT AFTER! No late journals will be accepted.

Each entry will be graded as follows :

5 pts – the entry is thoughtful and insightful

4 pts – the entry shows some depth of thought

3 pts – the entry simply answers the question

2 pts – the entry is a single sentence that briefly addresses the question asked

1 pt -- the entry is blank, missing, illegible or incoherent OR entry is not on topic

At the end of the quarter, the total number of points earned will be divided by the total number of points possible in order to get the grade for the journal. For example, if there were 10 journal entries, there would be a possible total of 50 points. If you earned 45 points out of the possible 50, then divide 50 into 45 for a grade of 90. This 90 would become 10% of the overall quarter grade.
