What is Moodle ?
 
Moodle is an open-source course management system (CMS) or e-learning platform. Moodle is widely used around the world by universities, schools, teachers, corporations and community organizations with a substantial user base consisting of 46,777 registered sites with 33,517,533 users in 3,311,030 courses (as of April, 2010).

Moodle is designed to allow educators to create effective online learning communities through the interaction of teachers, students, parents and schools and districts. More than technology for technology’s sake, the modular design of Moodle allows course administrators to provide anything from simple assignments and documentation to on-line evaluation and assessment.

 
What does the EduTech hosted Moodle service include?
 
The Moodle Service includes the following:
 

· Individual district Moodle site following the convention of [districtName]moodle.edutech.org (e.g. dansvillemoodle.edutech.org ).
· Installation and configuration of
o MYSQL database
o Apache web server
o PHP processing
 
· Setup of district administrative user ID’s
· EduTech web hosting service & support
· Moodle application support: Troubleshooting, software updates, password reset
· Research, testing and installation of additional Moodle templates and modules
· Initial implementation meeting

What is the charge for the service?
 
The initial charge for the Moodle hosted service is $2,060.38 annually. EduTech will reevaluate Moodle service after the first year to assess district usage. Pricing may be adjusted to include an additional cost for disk usage beyond an established limit.
 
Does the service include training?
 
The EduTech hosted Moodle service includes initial training of district Moodle administrators (course set up, user account creation, etc...). End-user training is offered at an additional cost. How do you request service?
 
Districts can request the EduTech hosted Moodle service by contacting EduTech project Coordinator. (Coordinators, contact Tim Keller for setup initiation, Kelli Eckdahl for training coordination)
