    David Seidner
Study the work of David Seidner, particularly the work he did using mannequins in unique spaces. Do a series of works that explore the relationship of a model that is a direct inverse to her surroundings. (Eg. If she is dressed elegantly, put her in a dingy space. ) Always be aware of your lighting. Try one roll of black and white and take digitals also. Print your best 6 darkroom images and photoshop 6 digital images.

    John Wood
John Wood treated photography as just a means to an end. Nothing was precious or off limits in using the materials. He scratched some of his negatives, he painted on them, he made transparencies and contact printed them. Go on an exploration where nothing is sacred and really explore photography as just a medium. Study John Wood’s work as your guide. Create 6 pieces using John Wood as your muse.

    Object/objectivity
Examine the differences between the object and the multiple possibilities of its photographic image. Each student must choose an “aesthetically engaging object. I strongly suggest that the object be larger than a breadbox to avoid too early confrontation with technical restraints. Photograph the object 50 different ways using one roll of black and white film and 25 digital images. Try to create in each exposure a drastically different image of the object. Keep a log of your exposures and lighting conditions. I want to see that you have tried a wide variety of shutter speeds and apertures. Print your best 6 black and white and photoshop at least 6 digital images.

    Landscapes of the mind
This assignment is based on exploring landscape in ways that the traditional photographer may have missed. Look at the work of Evon Streetman. She photographed on Rock Face for 10years and came up with a series in which each exposure became its own separate landscape. Many artists are drawn to one element in a piece and that element drives the composition for many pieces. The purpose of this piece is to let the point of reference disappear. A small pile of sand could appear to be a mountain.

    Self Portrait
Find a way to portray yourself using one roll of black and white film and 25 digital images. This does not mean that you have to be in every image, but all the images should be a reflection of you and your character. When you are done, photoshop at least 6 of the images and print 6 of the film images. Choose the best 5-8 images and mount them.
