Adjusting to a New School, by Ann Dillon


Is your child attending a new school this fall?
Maybe you have moved to a new district and are adjusting new buildings, new bus drivers, teachers, and friends.

What can you do to make the experience of a new school exciting and positive?

First, contact your child's new school and request a tour. If possible, make an attempt to introduce your child to teachers, guidance counselors, or other school personnel. A friendly face is always nice to have on the first day. Some districts have mentors for new children. See what other orientation activities are available by contacting your school.

The most important factor in transiting is support from home. Continuing to be the support system is essential for your child.
